It's kind of boring.

haha, yeah.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I was actually quite surprised how poppy the song was.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Bobcat Goldthwait leading the Pixies through a cover of "Once In A Lifetime" boring? Whatevs. Rest of the album ok maybe.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The guy just playing the Maracas is kind of funny.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, so cutting, miccio. I'm very impressed.

rube boi, Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do indie rock people dress like that?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 14 November 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I didn't mind the second song so much.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 14 November 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

This is what Modest Mouse sounds like?

Not generally, no.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Sunday, 14 November 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha it just dawned on me you guys must be talking about snl

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 14 November 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

west coast checking in, I DIG the first song, less intense than anything I've ever heard from them, and better for it, strangely.

tremendoid, Sunday, 14 November 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe "less intense" is the wrong phrase, maybe less sloggy and heavyhanded.

tremendoid, Sunday, 14 November 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know there was a another Belushi brother.

Garibaldianne (Garibaldianne), Sunday, 14 November 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like MM as background music, non-intrusive.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 14 November 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like their records but how can a band have been at it for 10+ years and still sound so incompetent live?! It was admittedly charming how nervous they seemed (not in an epic Elliott-Smith-at-the-Oscars way, just very obvious "oh shit we're on SNL" shakes). But still: Brock's guitar was completely out of tune, he sang looking down at his left hand, and neither he nor Maracas Guy could hit even half the notes.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Sunday, 14 November 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"Float On"...is that a lost Happy Mondays song?

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 14 November 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Cancer and my name is Isaac, huh
And I like a woman that loves everything and everybody
And you know what ladies, if you feel that this is you
Then this is what I want you to do

Ooh, yeah, take my hand
Let me take you to Love Land
Let me show you how sweet it could be
Sharing your love with IIIII-saaaac...

briania (briania), Sunday, 14 November 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as good as Mickey then?

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Sunday, 14 November 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost

Briania, I love you so much right now.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Sunday, 14 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

there should be a scientific study on how modest mouse became huge, it's a mystery. put the acrylamide kids on it.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 15 November 2004 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been a great fan of MM, but I will always appreciate Isaac Brock for this (from memory, so forgive any mistakes):

"Cowboy Dan's a major player in the cowboy scene
He goes to the reservation drinks and gets mean
Goes to the desert points his rifle at the sky
says 'God if I have to die, you will have to die.'"

MODEST MOUSE VS. FRANZ FERDINAND WHICH IS WORSE

FRANZ FERDINAND BECAUSE THEY ARE ROCK "BY THE BOOKS"

MODEST MOUSE SOUNDS UNIQUELY BAD!

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Monday, 15 November 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I don't see a fair comparison there. Franz Ferdinand are a bunch of dopey kids who don't really know what they're doing.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 15 November 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Whereas (not that this makes them good) MM has put in a lot of time and paid their dues, and finally, when it seemed most improbable, broken through with a hit record. They made at least one other album I thought was pretty good, which (in case you haven't already been told a thousand times) sounds VASTLY different from the current one.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 15 November 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

HURTING THAT'S WHAT I MEANT

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Monday, 15 November 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

OK SORRY

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 15 November 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

it's also sort of lisp ridden, but I enjoy some of it.
