track id, micro/mimimal type tune with lots of vocoder

really sharp steady 4/4 and a melodic heavily vocodered vocal all the way through, the beat drops out at one stage and the vocal kind of drones it back in.

I'm sure it must be a big hit, in whatever sense this stuff is big. Is it Villalobos? Not Easy Lee, though the vocal is that style.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 14 November 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

come on dude, more info pls, where did you hear it, etc.

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 14 November 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

a dude I know played it last night, in a set of clicky minimal stuff.

the vocal kind of goes "aaaaah-ooooom" at one point, and when I say the beat is sharp I mean it's really not got much resonance. the overall effect is a bit like "Miura", ie the way the vocals work with the music, but the track doesn't really sound like "Miura" other than that.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 14 November 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

it's probably superpitcher's remix of the mfa's "the difference it makes". they might have samples of it up at the kompakt site, ronan.

tricky (disco stu), Sunday, 14 November 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

tricky (disco stu), Monday, 15 November 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

JoB (JoB), Monday, 15 November 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, very very pretty.

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 15 November 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that track is great, but it's not that!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 November 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Easy Lee by Villalobos?

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Monday, 15 November 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Not Easy Lee, though the vocal is that style.

!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Believe" by Cher.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

There's this band called Daft Punk....

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 15 November 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not at all like Daft Punk, it is like "Easy Lee" but isn't "Easy Lee", man I can't believe I can't find it out! I will though.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

could it be the other side of the mfa 12", as in the original version? it has much more vocodered vocalisings than the superpitcher mix.

stirmonster, Monday, 15 November 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

are you sure it's not cher though? ;)

xp

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

the chorus, over acid squealing is something like, "if you want to know, if he loves you so, it's in his kiss"

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Cher - "The Shoop Shoop Song"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 15 November 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

lol!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably too pop / not minimal enough, but I'll mention it anyway, to keep no tern unstoned:

Add N to (X): "Plug Me In"?

OleM (OleM), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

if you want to know, if he loves you so, IT'S IN THE HISS. NINE MINUTES OF HI-HATS AND GREEN VELVET ORGASMING AND MAKING SPITTING HISSING NOISES

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what it is but it sounds amazing Ronan!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

you do know I made up that last part, about a song that definitely doesn't exist

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

no thats what he's fancies. micro-shoop-shoop.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Britney Spears: "Toxic"

(pretty minimalist stuff, and Autotune is sort of a vocoder, isn't it? :-) )

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i think thats the one Ronan might be after!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone got the full mp3 of the Superpitcher MFA mix?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I just found it. This is one of my favorite tracks of the year.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It's neither of those tracks, though both are very good.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Listen To The Hiss (Villalobos Screen Kiss Remix), maybe? Hell featuring Alan Vega.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

searching for that now.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i doubt that's it (no vocoder), but that remix is one of my favorites this year.

it's tricky (disco stu), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

no it's not that. gah this is bugging me now!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the full MP3 of the MFA mix!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

MFA me!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

it's laurie anderson-oh superman (MANDY remix)

don't you love it when you pick out a track by someone you already liked anyway!

the dj who was playing says it's one of his favourite of all time!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha this was one of the tracks I said I desperately wanted to hear in a thread about two months ago. Even the idea of it fills me with excitement.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect it might be very hard to find.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

the single is called "saved at sunset". i have it on mp3...

it's tricky (disco stu), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not too hard to find. i don't think it's very good either. though if memory serves their are 2 versions, and i'm pretty sure i've only heard one.

i hate being the one to say this, but have you heard the original, ronan?

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

He's gone to bed. Before he did, he told me he hadn't.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

(NB. We do not live together - this was on AIM)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

that's bad.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 25 November 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What is bad? This O Superman thing or Ronan and I not living together?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 25 November 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the other thing!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 25 November 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd still drop it in a set, just for the recognition factor. plus it's plenty functional, if relatively unexceptional. imho.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 25 November 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

MFA's 'Fungle' mix of "The Difference It Makes" pitched up +5% = best drum'n'bass I've heard this year.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it's laurie anderson-oh superman (MANDY remix)

i can't find the record just now but one version of this was a total optimo classic. it's a few years old no?

stirmonster, Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you talking about that whole album of O Superman remixes? I think this is new.
