All the Neu! albums! Damn that was an exciting couple of weeks when I picked them up!

Clarke B., Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, Jess, I was wondering how many other people on here had that JD live record... I like it a lot; it's amazing how raw and intense they sound without Hannett's production job.

Clarke B., Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Astrud Gilberto - Now.

Nitsuh, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Buffalo Springfield Box.

Dave225, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Only ones I can think of right now that haven't already been mentioned are the Screamers & Liliput/Kleenex retrospectives. (The Screamers' compilation might've been last year, but OK.) Also, the Fela Kuti catalog seeing the light of day (though I've only one album). The new Rhino Elvis Costello discs, the Blondie albums (the GOOD Blondie albums), and I believe Nuggets II would qualify as well (though I haven't listened to it just yet). Oh, and the 1st Lightning Bolt record.

Gage-o, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That reminds me: Nam June Paik "Works"

Still haven't heard that, but I imagine it's pretty great.

hstencil, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Albert Marcoeur, Albert Marcoeur

Does The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions count as a reissue?

dleone, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone keeps listing the weirdo John Cale records. What aboot Vintage Violence, huh????

Andy K., Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Should say Neu! but I have been more enamoured with Shuggie's Inspiration Information.

helenfordsdale, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If it doesn't (and part of its material IS reissued), then it's a new release, Dominique.

Josh, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

23 Skidoo - Seven Songs, especially the opening bit.

Laavanyan, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Radio Birdman, dude.

dan, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Liliput. Afrika Bambaataa, Looking for the Perfect Beat: 1980-1985. Nuggets II. Heavenly vs. Satan. Big Youth, Natty International Dread 1973-1978.

Most overrated reissue, by a mile: Shuggie Otis. Yawwwwwwn.

M. Matos, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Capitol's reissues of the first few Blondie albums (they reissued "The Hunter," too, but that can't be helped) and completion of reissuing all albums by the Band with the exception of "the fraudulent "Live at Watkins Glen'" (wording from the liner notes).

John Darnielle, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Skatalites - Herb Dub Collie Dub
Moondog - Moondog (the 1969 one)

michael, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(1) UNDERWATER MOONLIGHT by the Soft Boys (2) BIZARRO by the Wedding Present (3) all the early RAMONES albums (4) all the early XTC albums (as pricey imports, alas) (5) that Radio Birdman compilation

Alex in NYC, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

piano magic and st etienne

gareth, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Schlammpeitziger's comp. Collected Simplesongs of My Temporary Past was probably my favorite reissue, and also a good candidate for the "Overlooked" thread. Some beautiful music on that record, worth checking out if you like the idea of tuneful electropop instrumentals.

Mark, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll just say the Associates again. Uh, yeah. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

John Foxx (even if I do always think he's shouting "Underpants!" instead of "Underpass")

jamesmichaelward, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if these count, but all the canon-izing comps from BBE, Soul Jazz, Nuphonic, and Strut are consistently rad. Strut's "Nigeria 70" (also featuring my fave cover-art) is the best this year (and a nice complement to the Fela re-issues).

Spencer Chow, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Miles at the Fillmore East, Velvet's Bootleg Series, and the Coil reissues that came out.

James Annett, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No order of preference:

Art Ensemble of Chicago A Message to Our People LP
Richard Hell & The Voidoids Destiny Street LP (180gm/220 gm)
Pagans Shit Street LP
Nuggets II 4 CD box
Curtis Mayfield Back to the World LP
Pere Ubu Terminal Tower LP
Archie Shepp Blase LP

God bless Get Back records, and their ongoing 180 gm vinyl reissues....

Vic Funk, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey mark! i was just coming back to this thread to mention Schlammpeitziger, but you've already done it.

i don't actually own the cd itself. i'm under the impression that it is basically a comp of material from spacerokkmountainrutschquartier (which is brilliant), and the album before that (forget the name), which isn't as good. is this correct? if so, i already have it all.

gareth, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Althea and Donna - Uptown Top Ranking + other stuff on Island; Studio One compilation; Scritti Politti - Songs to Remember [remarkably on CD for the first time].

Daniel, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, this is more "what NEWLY REISSUED old recs have floated" etc.--as far as actual old stuff goes, it'd be more like Fairport Convention, AC/DC, Abba, Fleetwood Mac, etc.

But as far as reissues go, Nuggets II is AWESOME (distinctly better than the first one, I think, and that's saying something), Martin Carthy's _The Carthy Chronicles_ boxed set is a definitive retrospective of probably my favorite guitarist (and a fine singer, too), the Felas are uneven but a couple of them are ace (esp. _Upside Down_), this newly reissued Jackson C. Frank album is totally growing on me, and of course now I can stop having to make copies of the Liliput anthology for all my friends.

This is a case where it would have made sense to start a new thread.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 12 April 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway 2006 is owned by Depeche Mode, while Genesis seem to be a contender in 2007 :)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

Flexx or someone is saying it's a boot, which is most likely.
