filesharing programs for Macs

Apologies if this has been asked before (yes, I did a search) ... what would you recommend as a good filesharing program for Macs? I have an OSX, and I'm too retarded (for now, anyway) to figure out Soulseek. But I'm sure there's something better than Limewire...right?

you are not very good at searching

Maybe and maybe. Thanks!

try limewire or nicotine (complicated).

I download stuff at work, put it on a disc, and then take it home with me.

Try Solarseek

mlmac is another one. Tends to be painfully slow though.

also a mac bittorrent client.

Acquisition is great.

BBT, is it better than limewire? I have both and they seemed to me pretty much the same, but I didn't use Acqu very much.

Magic City (ano ano), Monday, 15 November 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i prefer Limewire.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

But I can't get nearly as much stuff as all the people using soulseek.

Magic City (ano ano), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicotine is a very usable soulseek client.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

this is just a thread started to accentuate the fact that 1 i am too dumb to use soulseek (for osx) and... ah feh that i am too dumb.

there's direct connect as well but not as good as it used to be.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

acquisition is great if you don't like whole albums and you like an assorted grab bag of mp3's with different bit rates.

shit is bush league.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Basically, if you have OS X 10.3 (Panther) then there's no reason not to install a slsk client like Solarseek or Nicotine.

If you don't then, I'd try Acqlite, which is Acquisition without the shareware nags. Running an ILE/ILM search on 'Acqlite' will turn up most threads on mac p2p anyway.

Thanks Alba. That is what I have been looking for.

Magic City (ano ano), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

well, not really looking so much as waiting for someone to tell me about.

BBT, is it better than limewire? I have both and they seemed to me pretty much the same, but I didn't use Acqu very much.

I used Limewire 3 years ago and found the interface to be much less Mac-ish and user-friendly than Acquisition. I bought licenses for both programs, but Acquisition is the only one I continue to use, and they tweak it about every 3-4 months. Yes, it features only individual MP3s done at varying bit rates, but I'm not using Panther and in fact didn't know there were networks like these that allowed full album downloads (except things like Bittorrent).

I mostly use Acquisition to sample unfamiliar artists, so individual MP3s doesn't bother me. If I want the album, I'll just buy it.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 19 November 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Acqlite does everything Acquistion does, plus a few extra things, without the nag screens.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 19 November 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

(though I think it might have stopped being developed now, so maybe Acquisition has overtaken it - I don't know. I stopped dling new Acquisition versions, partly because of Acqlite and partly because they... wouldn't work on my machine for some reason)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 19 November 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"few extra things" being what, exactly?

I don't have the nag screen since I paid up, but I'm curious about features the full version may not have.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 19 November 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The last version of Acquisition I had didn't show dl progress in the dock icon, only allowed one to connect to 5 networks instead of Acqlite's 6, and didn't show total number of files available at the bottom of the window.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 19 November 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

solarseek is roundly awful. I've not tried nicotine though.
