Random Musical Connections

So this morning, I'm listening to John Fahey's "The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death," and outside on 37st and 8ave, there is this incessant jackhammer pounding away. But what is funny, is that the two sounds seem to compliment each other in a very auspicious manner. So the question is: HAVE YOU EVER HAD AN EXPERIENCE LIKE THIS? PLEASE DESCRIBE.

And no answers like "oh, one time I was fucking to Judas Priest..." wait, on the other hand, those are okay, also.

I remember we did something similar, about music fitting the circumstances. But yeah, this happens all the time, but just try to pull a specific example out of my memory, willya? Geeze. Life is a symphony sometimes, and things always seem to come together in great new ways if you're open to it.

I was listening to 'I Against I' the other day and my cousin was ringing the door. Then he started screaming through the mailbox. It sounded great. I let him scream a bit more till the song was finished. hah!

Speaking of Loveless, I was once playing it with my niece practising some random song or another on her flute in the background, and it completemented it perfectly.

Windows 98 crashing at the bell sound that clears away the slightly noisy section of St Etienne's "Like a Swallow".

one year passes...
A year or so ago one of my housmates was playing something, I think Aphex Twin in his bedroom upstairs, and another one was listening to some other random electronic stuff in his room downstairs. As I walked from my room to go downstairs to the toilet, half way down the stairs I noticed that the music was in synch, but with one twice the BPM of the other.

Who'd have thunk it?

there were several occasions of my son putting on some rap cassette he wanted me to hear too -- in the kitchen, where the tape recorder was -- and me at some point shoutin from another room, "those sirens, y'know, reeelly great!", and the sirens quite often being not on tape but on the street of course

On the bus, still in high school, Mr. Bungle's first album blaring through my walkman headphones. We drive by a group of girls jogging in tight jogging clothes, and their feet fall with every single beat. As we're sitting at a stop-light when this occurs, it goes on for a good verse-and-a-chorus. The song at the time was "Girls of Porn".

Not a connection w/ outside world, but last night, the random-play option on a big bunch of singles from the past coupla years resulted in "Lose My Breath" being followed by "Who Could Win a Rabbit". Very different of course, but both, you will remember, with heavy-breath noises at end of each line of the chorus.

Riding past a Hitchin St Mary's church listening to Wilco's Heavy Metal Drummer and the church bells going perfectly with the sampled groove.

These two popped up back-to-back on shuffle this morning:

Funkadelic - 'A Joyful Process'

and

The J.B.'s - 'Gimme Some More'

I was half awake on the train as one track transitioned into the other and thought briefly that my iPod was on repeat.
