anyone heard it? i think it comes out tomorrow in some crazy 2cd + dvd thing. i'll be checking bestbuy for a cheapy version of it. is it all new stuff or is it a comp? i got tricked into buying a really cheap (6.99) Ying Yang album but it was mostly remixes. kinda blah. i'd rather have the original album but i was too dumb to do my research.

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

what the hell happened to our hip hop listening population?

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Wooh the crazy limited edition 2CD+DVD version looks insane. I may have to spring for that even though I can't imagine that it's not more Lil Jon than any sane person could possibly listen to in one sitting.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

bestbuy has it listed for 13.99 right now, but on the first day they always have crazy sales

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

it's excellent. the second disc is a bunch of excellent remixes, one of which features bad brains.

adam west (adamwest), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be buying this w/ bonus disc on the first day of course.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hoping to get the ying yang as a promo.
Need to drop TVT a beggin' line.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

'Real Nigga Roll Call" is a fantastic song.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

TVT sent me a promo of the ONE TVT album that Stylus had ALREADY reviewed. They have yet to send me any others, even after I emailed them.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i just heard a song off it....all hip hop has a stream of the grand finale, w/ bun b, nas, ice cube, t.i., jadakiss....it's pretty good....i think government names talked about it a few days ago.

bun b is great....t.i is great...nas is weird and abtruse (or obtuse), jadakiss sounds kinda gruff and meaner than usual, not his best verse IMO, and ice cube sounds really really embarrassing....especially embarrassing because his verse on the grand finale on the DOC's no one can do it better is one of my favorite verses ever....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I posted about it hairs of a second before Gov't Names :) but who's counting.

AnywayI think nas' verse is great too, the only verse I don't feel as much is Cube's and he did better than I expected actually. But yeah, DOC of course destroys Cube on entirely different songs.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The album's giong to go down as a watershed moment in hip-hop.

Pikmin, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright alright you lot have convinced me to go buy this on my lunch break.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

NOTHING IS HARDER THAN THIS ALBUM IN 2004.

i think this album IS a watershed moment in hip hop. the only thing is that the album doesnt have quite enough hardcore lil jon moments on it. and letting r kelly rhyme for so long is fucking idiotic.

cube is still wack as all heavenly fuck, sad to say, no idea why hes on that grand finale song. he gets shat on by TI and bun b.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

relistening, yeah, cube is the wackest ever. he totally wastes the real nigga roll call and grand finale beats.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the bonus disc tracklisting mentions a bad brains remix. is this, um, THE bad brains???

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I posted about it hairs of a second before Gov't Names :) but who's counting.

djdee, what is your site? I am not part of the "blogosphere" i just know a few blogs....i'd be curious to see yours.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"the bonus disc tracklisting mentions a bad brains remix. is this, um, THE bad brains???"

Apparently so!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(total thread-killer) Hey Phil did you DJ the Ada/Superpitcher show on Saturday? Me and Adam couldn't figure out if it was you for sure.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

um.... "stop fuckin wit me" is like sick of it all, all over again!

ok, with an 808 added. i'll give'em that. but shit, those shouted choruses... has lil jon's crew been listening to old NYHC? are we gonna see SxE crunk bands coming out of connecticut now?

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

talk about a thread killer! take it to the areal thread. :) yeah, that was me, sippin on crunk juice.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Lil Jon was always giving props to Oi! and hardcore!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

so lucky me bestbuy is open early during the holiday season and i was able to stop in on my walk to work. they have the 2cd+dvd digipak set at 13.99 (but it's hiding in the racks) and the single disc for 9.99 (but labled 13.99). don't be tricked.

and the (black) girl at the counter asked me "do you like lil' jon?!". i said, "i wouldn't be buying it if i didn't". wtf?!

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps you have a very advanced nephew.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my nephew is 1

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

man, this cd makes me want to beat people up

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

specifically ice cube since his verse just came on

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

M@tt -

Its not like gov't names in that we're not really "writers" like how d_l_k is a writer, mostly we're just posting about music we like and where dlk uses cool descriptions that I'm jealous of, we say things like "this shit knocks."

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

stop fucking with me is just monstrous. that slayer sample (i think) rules.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

So I picked this up at lunchtime at Rasputin (it cost a little more than JaXoN paid, but fuck monopolistic bullshit like Best Buy.) The Bad Brains sample is "Re-Ignition" and Slayer is SAMPLED on "Stop Fucking With Me". Oh boy am I excited to hear this.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i love supporting monopolistic bullshit

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Go for it then!

No Walmart in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

holy crap. metal and go go on the same album?!

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

if you practice in the church of satan

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

This record is ridiculously good so far (admittedly I'm only to "Don't Fuck Wit Me", but everything on the extra remix disc is amazing.)

(Okay it suddenly slows way way down. . . I'm not sure the transition there was the best one haha. Still amazing and I wholeheartedly recommend getting the bonus disc version, it's all gold even with the bad Ice Cube verses.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The R Kelly track makes me mad.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I turned it off. My neighbors weren't going to put up with any more of this on a weeknight. What's so bad about the R Kelly track?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's pretty much like tracks 1-10 are beat the shit out of everyone around you and then 11-whatever get real slow. i haven't really listened to that half all the way through.

i did have to turn it off at work today. they guy i work with is usually cool with most stuff i play, but today asked, "do you really like this?". it was just so aggressive, and then the metal tracks came in and i felt bad for him and turned it off.

the remix disc is pretty great. where else is that Let's Go track from? it's pretty amazing.

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's from the new Trick Daddy album.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Or rather the original is.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Blow" is really great too. I had no idea it was Gangsta Boo at first. With her voice screwed, she sounds like a man!

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

how is the trick daddy album, i've considered getting it

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Dee swears by it, but I've not heard the whole thing.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha yeah its one of my favorite h-h releases this year. Chuck Eddy and I agree!

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Is L'Trimm sampled on it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

does it have that crazy train sampled song?

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

haha not that I'm aware of, Alex

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is the Slayer song sampled? I heard that Rick Rubin produced that track, so has he used Angel of Death again, like on She Watch Channel Zero all those years ago?

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Two samples: "Raining Blood" and "South of Heaven".

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? OK, that sounds extremely promising!

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I will buy this on my lunchbreak today, just got paid.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Bo Hagon is the future of rap. His verse on Fresh's 'Hey Cake Boy' is outstanding (as is that whole darn record to be honest).

Pikmin, Wednesday, 17 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

there was an alleged high school photo of lil jon on ILM a while back.

anybody know what thread it was on??

That's so obviously not him.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

have you ever seen those two people in the same room? didn't think so

I think he has a lazy eye.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Just bought this today, and fucking hell does it kick!

Don't Fuck Wit Me has brought out my Slayer pedant side though - the samples are kind of wrongly listed in the CD inlay, because while Raining Blood definitely makes up the majority of the track, there's only a split-second sample of the very end of South of Heaven, and the intro to the Lil Jon tune is Slayer's Mandatory Suicide.
Not that anyone cares except me, I'm sure!

And what on earth happened to Ice Cube? Jeez he sucks on this album!

M Carty (mj_c), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ice cube is an utter embarassment and shouldnt be on any lil jon song ever, much less one called real nigga role call. theres nothing real about cube anymore and hasnt been since about 1993.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 18 November 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, although I always reckoned Ice Cube's falling off point probably came directly after Natural Born Killaz in 1994. Maybe that was just a song that couldn't be bettered...

M Carty (mj_c), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ice cube, will smith and queen latifah should not be alowed on records ever again. stick to film. actually, all of you should just retire because i don't want to watch your movies either

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

WE BE CLUBBIN'

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Da Blow" is sooooo good! Is that all Gangsta Boo on that track? What exactly do the Eastside Boyz do on Lil Jon albums? Are they engineers? Do they rap? They just seem to wiggle around in the videos.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

They chant along with the choruses!

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I must watch the videos closer then.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This is great!

yeah, it's pretty much like tracks 1-10 are beat the shit out of everyone around you and then 11-whatever get real slow.

JaXoN, I don't think we ever agree on matters of hip hop. I thought you like R&B??? This part of the record has Lovers And Friends and One Night Stand on it, both of which are amazing!

adam... (nordicskilla), Sunday, 21 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no i wasn't saying i didnt' like it, i was just making a comment that it's like two sides of vinyl. the bro side and the ho side

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i even like the lean back remix with mase. i normally really dislike that song. did he do the beat? i never realized that and then i listened to it and it sounds like he could have

(too lazy to look at liner notes)

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the original Lean Back was produced by Scott Storch, then the remix is basically Lil Jon doing his own version of the beat.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

o

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet he could redo hyphy and i'd even like that

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

see, I kinda like the Federation's cod-crunk. LJ shouldn't have a monopoly on it.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the Federation CD! It's good car music!
