the Golden Limo mix

I've already mentioned my mixes up at http://alldisco.net but I thought I'd mention another one I just put up for someone.

A year or so ago, this artist named Frankie Fever decided to get an old limo painted gold, fill it with art and drive around the country. She asked me to supply a mix that would play on the cd player in the car on loop. I said, why don't you use original music? She had a band after all. She said, no, I want you to make a mix. I said ok, figuring why not, I'd never recorded a set, live or otherwise. So one night at about 3 am I pulled out some records, trying to think what would be a fun mix to listen to while checking out art in the Golden Limo. I recorded the whole thing in my headphones, edited out 1 or 2 really bad parts and called it a night. I think in the end, the limo was more of a station wagon and it ended up having a tape deck instead. I thought some of you might enjoy this anyway. It's got a lot of fun post-punk/pop odditities, in the middle goes into this mixed italo-disco type thing, with a bit of new wave and other fun stuff.

I hope you enjoy it. Check out Frankie's site at:

It's a trip.

Well, that was an hour and a quarter well-spent; the Italo section in particular is well fookin lush. Care to supply a track listing? I didn't recognise much beyond Maximum Joy, Marianne Faithfull, Gina X, Tina Turner & BEF, Act, Flying Lizards.

thank you, I'll supply a tracklisting later when I'm home or have a chance to listen to it again.

not that anyone was asking, but the second month's installment of Alldisco is being processed, the site will be updated when I get the playlist together, but here it is:

http://64.41.125.76/alldisco/110604dan.mp3

that was approx. midnight to 1 or so, starting by mixing out of a Mac Dre song my friend was playing in memorium, through an edit or two to fix the fact that one of the turntables died in the third song, and ending with the following dj mixing in the accapella of Devotion. Lots of disco classics in there.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Excellent mix! But I want a higher bitrate version!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 19:16 (twenty years ago)

thanks...of the golden limo mix or the alldisco mixes? I can burn a CD of the golden limo mix as AIFF. The second alldisco mix was messed up because one channel kept getting buzzy, so we had to do it in mono and switch back and forth.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 19:37 (twenty years ago)

cheers dan, i'm about halfway through the golden limo mix and it's really nice.

hello again...keeping this thread as a self-promotional device for the 2 of you who have read it, I'm on "internet radio" tomorrow, should be really silly. Totally different from any of the aforementioned mixes. Lots of bootleg megamixes with razor blade edits.

every saturday this preppie electro guy from detroit called
Tedward hosts an online music/comedy radio show. I'm his
guest tomorrow. I will play bootleg disco megamixes, cool mid
80s electro-hip-hop sounds and, as the show is titled,
incredibly gay hi-nrg music of the likes that I'm usually to
scared to play at an actual party. Tune in online, it's the way
music will happen in the future. Also, the station is right on
first ave and first street next to lil' frankies, come by and mess
me up.

How long are you playing Dan? All 2 hours?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 19 November 2004 19:27 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea. Maybe? Maybe tedward will play some Drexciya. Or get on the mic and try to be funny. I'm just gonna play it by ear.

the archive isn't up yet but you can see the playlist, most of the songs except the first, the last and a few in the second hour are mine. It was pretty silly, some bad mixing, some bad comedy.

Great mix, Dan.

I.M. (I.M.), Sunday, 15 May 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

thanks. be on the look out for the Crazy Rhythms mix CD, should be out in a month or so. It's a bit more thought out, mostly mixed a lot better and with some proper post-production fixing. I'll post about it here.

There are some other places to hear stuff online, in the playlists/audio section of the alldisco website:

http://www.alldisco.net

and the recent appearance of Crazy Rhythms on Tim Sweeney's radio show:

http://www.beatsinspace.net

click on playlists and scroll down a few weeks.

thanks again.

Oh I just noticed the playlist above for Golden Limo mix is wrong, the Patrick Cowley and Mu tracks are switched.

they've sold 1,000,000,000 copies so far, how awesome is that?
