buying a whole country as a brand is interesting enough. but it was worth it to see the those reggae blokes at the party in germany incorporating puma into the lyrics of those dancehall tunes... was hilarious...stick stick stick

why didn't you like it dave?

it seemed a bit muddled - couldn't work out if it was supposed to be a political documentary about branding and cultural appropriation, or a straighforward narrative of this marketing fiasco, or what. the discussion of the homophobia controversy all felt a bit tacked on as well.

i got the impression that the documentary we ended up with wasn't what the film makers had expected - for one thing, they seemed to slowly move to a position of outright hostility towards puma and its strategy. maybe this was because all the people from the company seemed so appalling.

i was too tired to see the end - were the gigs successful and did they avoid the wrath of Tatchell?

the narrator was Harry Hill right? he had a sneery tone quite often, directed at the Puma people (and not the reggae artists iirc)

Not Harry Hill, but can't remember quite who it was. Big promo gig in Greece was a total flop. They were expecting 20,000 and got about 200. Kept holding up the start waiting for someone -anyone- to arrive. At one point was of the guys on stage was imploring people by the pool to come over and watch...

was it harry hill?! yeah the voice over was very anti-puma, but like i say, they did seem a miserable lot.

the big showcase gig in Athens was a total flop. no-one came. it was awful to watch. afterwards, they had all the puma people trying to explain it - 'what we've learnt is that there is no reggae culture in Greece' etc. classic!

x-post...

it wasn't harry hill at all, though i did find it very sneery. i don't think by any stratch that all the ire was directed at the puma people either. i didn't like the way puma went off in search of cheap "cool" any more than may other people, but i felt the artists involved were by implication belittled and, far from being tacked on, the homophobia angle seemed like the entire raison d'etre of the film. shame, coz it coulda been *really* interesting.

he really sounded like Harry Hill! i'm disappointed/relieved

the footage of people hurling abuse at Tatchell and fellow Outrage protesters on the street was disturbing but possibly imbalanced - it wasn't clear if there was provocation both ways
