From the BBC News site.

BBC Radio 1's chart show presenter Wes Butters is to leave the station as part of a shake-up of its schedules.
Butters will leave in February to be replaced by DJ duo JK & Joel, who only joined the station in the summer from Manchester's Key 103.

Ol' Dirty Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anybody else see the title and think this was related to Limp Bizkit?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be a very old thread.

isn't it about time they had a LADY presenting the top 40. when will they realise that hiring Miquita is the only solution? i suppose a double act would be better tho - perhaps not with Amstell tho as they'd face accusations of being too cynical possibly.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to think this is because of Swygart's sustained anti-Wes campaigning.

I love Simon Amstell. I got to shake his hand last week, which was tremendously exciting.

Has anyone here heard the two that are replacing him, think I heard them doing bits on someone else's show. Don't think they are going to be an improvement hard as that is to believe.

From that BBC story it reads like the Capital chart show has been taken over by a pair of presenters who are doing well, so Radio One has decided to copy the move by getting a pair of presenters in.

Bring back Bruno Brookes.

OTM. JK and Joel were APPALLING in their first week or so at R1. I mean, worse than Wes. Not heard them much recently tho'. They'd better have improved.

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

how about Frank Bruno and Elkie Brookes?

BBC Radio 1's chart show presenter Wes Butters is to leave the station as part of a shake-up of its schedules.

SO NEAR!!!

Butters will leave in February to be replaced by DJ duo JK & Joel

AND YET SO FAR!!!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

So near, and yet so very, very far... two Wezzes for the price of one. It's like they've listened to all the shit that Butters has been doing, and decided that no, actually, that's exactly the kind of thing that the chart needs more of. For fuck's sakes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, I thought Wes Borland was leaving Limp Bizkit... again!

*the cries of miccio permeating the magma of our planet*

WBS, have you listened to the geordie version of The Futureheads yet:

Maximo Park

no originality, bandwagon jumpers Maximo Park - heading for the top 40 soon probably

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Martian - no, but I've heard the name. I can't help but think I'll stumble unsuspectingly into them soon enough.

Another thought is the increased competition thing - Butters has been plugging the hell out of how Radio 1 is the official chart, repeatedly exhorting his listeners to tell their mates that this is the only place to be etc. Now he's been dropped... let's hope he reacts incredibly unprofessionally. I think that might be quite fun.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

How magnaminous of you, Mr. Bitch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Much as I despise Wes, JK and Joel are even worse. They used to be presenters on my local commercial station, Viking FM, and on hearing them on Radio 1 the other day it was clear that their schtick has not changed.

Picture the worst excesses of the local commercial radio DJ, a style that hasn't changed since the mid-80s and is best described as "Happy Shopper Steve Wright". Now picture a boot stamping on a human face, forever. That'll be the new Radio 1 chart show, then.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Not being a frequent listener to radio anymore I'm not an expert but I think Simon and Miquita would be awesome somewhere on Radio 1, as they are on PopWorld.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

wes butters is such a fascinating name.
