first heard some microphones in 2006 iirc. didn't listen for a while except for, if anything, intermittently. tonight i'm having one of those "oh shit this is still amazing" moments

`Now Only' is a stunning album. Unfairly overshadowed by 'Crow' for me. Very keen for this.

this is pure speculation, of course, but i don't expect the new one to be in the same mode as the last two. i know he says that the change of moniker doesn't mean much, but it does to me! when he said "one long song" + microphones, it immediately reminded me of his last album under the name, Mount Eerie, which was also one long song-

if i remember correctly it's a song about (among other things) the history of the microphones, playing gigs around the world, this constant shuttling time-travelling meditation on his career. when i saw him in mtl it was just him and acoustic guitar, very much like "Now Only" etc - but i wouldn't be surprised (given the description, the teaser, the content) if he cut it all up with collage and noise and other sounds, to add Microphoney texture to the ballad.

Holy fuck....... pretry cool but I can't imagine ever reading all that lol. And I say that as someone who went to the trouble of memorizing the lyrics to "The Moon" so I could cover it!
