hello. i`ve been lurking for awhile and i think its time for me to actually say summat. i`ve been pretty impressed by just how much you all know about music, by comparison i know fuck all. oh well hopefully that`ll all change soon. now to the nitty gritty of my post. i recently purchased the mina lp "a to b" on a bit of a whim, and have grown very fond of it. for an album of instrumentals its pretty engaging and dynamic; and absolutley SCREAMS lowlife era new order, without seeming too derivative and throw-backy. but what does everyone else think? are mina worth further investigation? if so what do you recommend?

First off, hi there! :-) Second, well you've caught my attention with the NO comparison, but I've not heard their work. Does the album list a website for contact info and all?

The first Mina LP "Kryptonite" is also good, maybe a bit more Krautrocky..

It's a shame they didn't put the original "Girl Roc" on "A to B", it's even more Lowlife-era New Order than anything on the album.

As a pretty much instrumental album, it's one of the few I'd see myself regularly listening to.

Hello nelly. Only just got to this, sorry.

I saw Mina supporting Stereolab in September, and bought "a to b" at the gig. I've only listened to it a copule of times, but I quite like it. I never thought of NO as a comparison, I must admit - I thought rather of the more commercial end of the early 80s synthpop movement. What's great about their current sound is Masha's Wurlitzer electric piano. I think this is the element of the band which stops them sounding too derivative. (Masha's also very nice, BTW. I spoke to her at the gig.)
