ok i realise most of you people will hate the stuff .. but there are days when a funky beat, a few samples looped for a few mins mixed up with some dubby effects is all you need to pass a few hours in front of your work pc.

so i put to the ilm massive. that folks are hard on this labels output.

good stuff -

all the lo-fi's albums .. even the second proper album - todays spin of this made me smile a lot more than it should have. it has aged well.

indian ropeman - very pleasant work soundtrack, and does anyone know what sanj is up to these days as he seems to have been involved in loads of other skint albums but not aware of any other Indian Ropeman albums.

midfield general - purely for the 'reach out' track, though midfielding with noel fielding outstaying his unwelcome/unfunny diatribe.

space raiders - 1st album .. the glam techno of disco doctor, and glam raid alone are worthy of adoration. tacky fun for all the family.

so bar the Fat Boy what else should i track down ?

xpress-2 album ? second space raiders album ?

or is the whole lot just one big motherfukin' dud ..

let battle flag commence ..

the brassic beats compilations - esp vol's 1 and 3 - had some gems on them (NB: i haven't listened to them since 1998, so i may have mis-remembered)

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

understand re 1998 : i was same until today -

you see i think that this type of Fun is well due a relisten.

pre-electro dance music.

also the new hexstatic album is one monster big beat revival album .. which kinda gotme wanting to hear it again.

i have a couple of those freebie skint comps (Essential and Skint Sluts) whcih had the best of the brassic comps i think ..

I've never really listened to the second Space Raiders album. Every time I try to do so I end up skipping through it to try and figure out which one was used on which advert, and fail miserably. It's all completely unrecognisable.

I'd start by seeking out the Cut La Roc side of the 'Mockers' mix tape off the front of Jockey Slut.

Hardknox's 'Coz I Can'/'Coz I Did' 12" still gives me shivers.

Freq Nasty had a couple of releases on Skint. 'That's My Style'/'Goose' was probably the best one.

cut la rocks album is one i keep seeing and wondering if worthy of (sort-of) hard earned ..

there was supposed to be a space raiders second album with bonus remix cd - but i'll be damned if i've ever seen it around ..

dj mixes: on the floor at the boutique, vols 1-3

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Scanty Sandwich - "Because of You" was *CLASSIC*!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

skint-related: FSUK vol. 4 mixed by cut la roc isn't bad if you're in the mood for 1996-7 (which is pretty faint praise considering it came out in 1998!)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

er even later actually, 1999!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

actually that fsuk mix is what started the whole thing off .. whan i saw it in the archive today .. those pete fowler covers just made me wanna grab it ..

i also reckon fsuk3 is fuckin ace. but as its BRA everyone has to be a hater on it ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh whoa, I forgot all about that Scanty Sandwich song! Yeah, that was great.

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I still adore the BRA s/t album. Timeless bubblegum Big Beat, in a class of its own.

creamyloads (Da ve Segal), Friday, 19 November 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto. A particular timeless fave of mine is Hardknox's 'Fire Like Dis', which got ruined something fierce by Jim Carrey and co. in Me, Myself and Irene. The Essential Skint comp is indeed fire.

"Cut La Roc/Is in the spot/Cut La Roc/Is makin' it hot"

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 19 November 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

skint are pretty good at five-a-side football (soccer)

nick.K (nick.K), Friday, 19 November 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Cut La Roc 'Freeze' - monster track from a few years back. even his song 'Fallen' featuring Gary Lightbody is quite good (better than owt Snow Patrol have done since).

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 19 November 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

There's an awesome Indian-vibes'n'beats remix of Snow Patrol some friends of mine played out in Mancland. Any ideas?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my god space raiders were awfukl when they played sheffield just when skuint signed them.

the only good thing on skint is the first BRA album.

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Investigate some of the Skint/Fatboy offshoot material on "Southern Fried" records. It's just as mad!

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Southern Fried needs its own thread. Teh hottness.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the Lo Fis album is better than B.R.A's but enjoy both

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

kinda chuffed. following yesterdays big beat indulgence - today i bagged the freestylers FSUK2 mix .. been on the hunt for it for ages .. when it drops on ebay that fragger goes for a blasty .. but got lucky today.

mark e (mark e), Friday, 19 November 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a disc of FSUK3, not enamoured tho'.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 19 November 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

skint are pretty good at five-a-side football (soccer)

They still sponsor Brighton and Hove Albion, you know.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 19 November 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The X-Press 2 album is quite good

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 November 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the Brassic Beats USA comp was just a handful of songs picked from the multiple released in the UK, but it was my introduction to super_collider.
