A little last minute self-promotion here:
American Altitude will be at the Quiet Storm in Pittsburgh 11/19, 9pm. Below is a preview from the Pitt City Paper. For the record, he's basing this on an album that came out a year ago, and I'd say we've gotten less dreamy and more rockin since then.
American Altitude
Roots Music You Can Dream To
Writer: DAN ELDRIDGE
I suppose it makes some bit of sense that the
alternative-country epicenter now lies unarguably in
the urban heart of Chicago, which, geographically, if
not in spirit, is at least Midwestern. But it’s clear
that the trend has grown into full maturity when an
unknown band cobbles together an album’s worth of
material in its New Brunswick basement, of all places,
that manages to rival even the most polished work on
the Windy City’s Bloodshot Records roster. And while
the majority of American Altitude’s recently released,
self-titled album is instrumental, songs like “Dodge
City Chamber of Commerce” and “Alpharetta” still
manage to speak warmly and wise, albeit with little
more than acoustic finger-picking, brushed drums and
the slightest touch of a lap steel. This is
atmospheric music, to be sure: the kind of white-noise
album you’d choose to fall asleep to. Chicago, I’m
sure, would be proud.

Also, New Jersey's about 10 times more country than Chicago if you've ever been there. Not that it matters.
