Danielson Famile

Or is it the Danielson Family? I hope I'm not repeating a thread here. They don't seem to have really appeared on ILM other than to be described as creepy, which I guess I can kind of see. I just really like them a lot, and me being definitely not Christian, I doubt religion has anything to do with it. Is anybody with me?

I think their lyrical content has a lot to do with the creepy feel of their music. In one line you have Jesus compared to acne cream, and the next you have sin compared to pig wrestling. Sure the children's piano adds the the weirdness of their music, along with Daniel Smith's vocals(Geddy Lee got nothin on him), but i really think the lyrics are the standout for the band. Oh, and its both names. Earlier releases on Tooth and Nail had Famile, and the new album, out on Smith's label New Jerusalem Music, has Family in the title. Yes, I'm a little bit into these guys =).

Yes, they're woooonderful. My then-girlfriend was their manager/ "official helpful friend" for a couple of years, so I got to see them many times, beginning with a show at the Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ, shortly after their now-out-of-print debut _A Prayer for Every Hour_ came out--they were all wearing matching T-shirts and antennae, and confused the hell out of pretty much everyone there. Also got to see Daniel, solo and playing with his head and arms sticking out of a giant papier-mache tree, blow Genesis P-Orridge off the stage at a _very_ strange double bill at Joe's Pub here in NYC.

I like _Fetch The Compass Kids_, but my favorites are still the two _Tri-Danielson_ albums.

gosh, i concur. for those in doubt, search "rubbernecker" off one of the tri-danielson albums...i have hurt my voice many times trying to sing along... i heard shellac put them on the bill for the uk all tomorrow's parties? whoa.

I'm curious.

it is a very curious album indeed. much less high octane than the family stuff. subdued almost.

It's great. "Things Against Stuff" is as good as the best Danielson material, but the album overall has more of an americana feel. Songs like "Sweet Sweeps", "Perennial Wine" and "Physician, Heal Yourself" could almost be somebody like Woven Hand, and make the forthcoming collaboration with David Eugene Edwards far more logical than it appeared when first announced.

A new Famile album towards to end of the year as well, apparently? That said, I think Chris Palladino is the only member of the Famile not on this one, so it's arguable that this is one anyway - plus the sticker on the front claim's it's Danielson album #6.

I adore that song "Fathom The Nines Fruitspie" from the last album, but aside from that, "Pottymouth" and "Rubbernecker" I find most of their stuff pretty unlistenable.

Oh man, "Fathom The Nine Fruits Pie" has got to be one of the most joyful songs in the world!

I like a bunch of their songs, but that one is it.

Other keepers: "Good News For The Pus Pickers," "Failing A Test = Falling In Love," "Cutest Lil Dragon," "Can We Camp At Your Feet," "Rallying The Dominoes," and "Idiot Boksen."
