They are.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 20 November 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Black Dog barking at me.

sibsi (sibsi), Saturday, 20 November 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
and the new album is AMAZING
not on top, good for no-one and this will never happen especially so...

where's the love, eh?

bogo (bogo), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Any chance of a YSI?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Bogo's right. Julie Doiron adds so much to the recipe.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 3 April 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

track and field are wasting their time releasing this stuff and other nonsense like broken family band while Kicker's cd sits on the shelf, ugh.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 3 April 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Not On Top
is beautiful.

sibsi (sibsi), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I will have "Not On Top" waiting for me when I get home. I await eagerly.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

more details on the new album please!! Is it called "Not On Top?" Who put it out? Where can I get it?

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

"Not On Top". On Rough Trade. Bit more produced than "Mas Cambios", but then again most albums are. Is that the guy from Ballboy on track 7?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

In mono, no less. I love this disc. Hadn't heard anything until Fluxblog posted the excellent title track, then I grabbed it. Really a perfect Spring album.

Waking Up Onstage at Jumbo's (Bent Over at the Arclight), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

The whole album has grown on me a lot. It's not exactly the kind of record that would interest me if you described it on paper (in fact, I'd probably purposefully avoid it), but it's just so strong. The first two tracks are the best, though.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

rough trade? no, track & field. herman dune are my favourite band in the world. it's a love i've been trying to shake since february because of new and bitter tastes, but i can't. 'not on top' is fucking amazing, a perfect record, best thing they've done. if this was the first thing you heard by them, next you need 'switzerland heritage'.

emsk, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

totally ordering it tonight.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

OK - so WHERE can I order this where it's not going to cost me over $20 to ship to the US??

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

you could try their label
http://www.trackandfield.org.uk/

but i guess it's the exchange rate that's going to make it expensive.

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

Actually, thinking about it, there must be someone that will sell Herman Dune stuff in the States. I think at least one of the band plays shows in New York pretty often.

Try http://www.hermandune.com/

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

yeah the label's cost, with exchange rate, is over $20

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 21 April 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

"Whatever Burns The Best Baby" may be my new favourite HD song. Except their cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?". Are they ever gonna put that to CD?

I like this a lot. It's schmindier than "Mas Cambios".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I got it at Aron's records in L.A. for $12.99... they don't do mail order, but that makes me think it's GOT to be available somewhere cheaper than $20...

On a Strict El Cholo Diet (Bent Over at the Arclight), Thursday, 21 April 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

nyc is like their adopted home city, david more than andre but both of them really - surely they will be back there soon. they're on tour imminently. check www.hermandune.com innit.

emsk, Friday, 22 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

berlin is andré's adopted home city.

sibsi (sibsi), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

http://www.darla.com

ALWAYS check there first! (In this case, the album's selling for $14.99)

So where's the love for Giant? It's been kicking about on the interweb for a while now but the official release has been put back to March for some reason. Anyway, it's absolutely wonderful - warm, and sad and uplifting in equal measure.
Unbelievably they're going on tour with the Kooks. I don't hold it against them - they deserve the exposure and are sure to blow the NME stooges off stage.

Stew (stew s), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea who the Kooks are, so there ya go.

Giant is great - they're moving into some very interesting new territory. While I don't think every song is great, (all but one on Not on Top was), I love the new direction and the risks they're taking with the whole 'mariachi' sound thing. Yeah, I love it.

Swine Spine (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

I really fucking like Giant, probably more than I ever expected to like a record by these guys

I love this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unc_GV4MeSs

Played it about four times in a row this morning on the walk to work.

I guess you get an advance cd if you star in a Herman Dune video

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

that video is priiime material for a slightly tweaked version of the Photos taken of famous people together that you would never have expected to be together but make you happy all the same. thread.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

The story relayed to me was that Jon Hamm just happened to be in Austin the same time SXSW was going on and Eugene Mirman introduced him to the Herman Dune guys and before you knew it he'd agreed to be in their video.
