And about bloody time. Don't miss the ITV Arts programme's profile of this fascinating and enigmatic band as they "Tap into America" on their US tour. Justin Hawkins also talks about his favourite guitars.

Clashes with MOTD 2 :-(

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Sunday, 21 November 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone grab this and post it somewheres?

57 7th (calstars), Sunday, 21 November 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Well. Talk about a programme heavily padded out with live footage of torturous guitar solos and that Hawkins dancing around like a prannet. Luckily Colin and Edith were on hand to defend "the people's band" against the cool kids/critics.
A disappointingly dull and mystifying programme.

i liked it when the South Bank Show did gangsta rap

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 22 November 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM David. I really hate the Darkness now. All the fun of their first couple of videos was airbrushed out. It was all about limp cock rock, madenning falsetto and, as you say, tortuous guitar solos.
And they're too professional to make arses of themselves in Tap style.
But a really dull film with no apparent direction. I hope the forthcoming Iggy Pop one is better made - obviously it'll be better because it's about Iggy, but he deserves a good piece of film making.

The film seemed to take them really seriously, even when they were doing daft stuff like rehearsing with pipers for T In The Park.
And what was all that shite Hawkins was talking about being cool? "You're not allowed to sing about love". That's bullshit. Since when was love uncool? Being uncool gives you freedom he says. I await their Tuvaan-throat-singing/zydecko/dub direction.

Only saw the first half as it just got too stupid after that (and our living room degenerated into shouts of "wanker!" and "really, I'd rather shag Melvin than Justin!" and we had to turn it off). Said... nothing as far as I could see.

Almost worth it for the vox pop from US teen:
"What America lacks is ROCK!"

Anna (Anna), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's all emo and...er...bullshit!"

Hahahaha!
