i'm positive they've taken that from a 70's or 80's song (i thought billy ocean, but seems not). i'm sorry, i've posted on another thread but a) being drunk, b) frustrated by the holes in my memory, i REALLY need to find the answer otherwise i will have to roam the web all night long (it's 2.30 am in paris)... we don't want that to happen (especially because i'm almost out of red wine and my girlfriend is begining to play some dire straits on vh1...and now green day...god help me !!).

outkast. sorry.

chaki once pointed out its similarity to "Who Can It Be Now?"

miccio (miccio), Monday, 22 November 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

another outkast affiliated track did this to me; killer mike's 'a.d.i.d.a.s.' reminds me a lot of roses are free by ween but i couldnt figure it out for a while!

who can it be now ? by who ?
it seems insane to me that no one noticed that, as the first time i heard the track it was obvious to me that it was a sample (but i may be wrong or some "horla" prowling...).

"who can it be now?" by men at work

miccio (miccio), Monday, 22 November 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit, you're right. not really a sample or even a direct quote, but it's the same goddamn notes, just slightly rearranged and lengthened by one beat. (or one dipthong, really.) hot damn!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 22 November 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

you can even interpolate the MaW sax in place of the Outkast trumpets in your head!

miccio (miccio), Monday, 22 November 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

somebody work on a blend ASAP

i'm aussie and i'm ashamed i didn't recognise this classic -men at work track - chaki once pointed out its similarity to "Who Can It Be Now?"
it reminds me of the trumpet riff

downunderboy, Monday, 22 November 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It also reminds me of that Santana song with the guy from Matchbox 20.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The chorus of that Outkast song never ceases to be a letdown for me.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, this really sounds similar ! (though i'm not sure that's what i had in mind. anyway, thanks, it's a good one).
that said, i don't like this outkast' song. can't see why it's a single (what's the point of releasing a single from these albums now, anyway !!?).
