doesn't this deserve a thread of its own?

How can i persuade my friends to go and see Slint at atp with me

although i don't really know why i'm interested, i haven't listened to slint in at least 3 years. i'd probably hate them now.

Thanks for the shout - just got my tix!

Mog, Monday, 22 November 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite fancy it - any news on any other dates?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

'Back in the day', I thought Slint were good.

Not as good as the legend that has been built mind.

I never saw them live and would like to.

However, and I am often wrong, I get the impression that any shows they play will be sold out to the prawn sandwich brigade, simply because they have to be there.

Yes, I am a bitter twisted, music snob, fuck.

I'd like an explanation about who the "prawn sandwich" crowd is. Is this a British thing?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I would venture to say the term is synonymous with the "trustafarian hipster" (aka "tripster") crowd.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope to see them when they do the obligitory "post-reunion-mania" tour when they are better rehearsed and back "in the groove".

I haven't been interested in the direction that Pajo has been taken post-Live From The Shark Tank but I have always been a fan of Brian and Britt's projects.

The Prawn Sandwich brigade is a football thing. Sorry it was a weak reference.

The prawn sandwich brigade started turning up at football post European Cup 1996 because the media dictated that attending football games was fashionable. In the 80s to mention football was tantamount to being a thug. The 'brigade' have since turned up with their connections, money and passionlessness to sour the game. watching the 'footy'.

Theterm 'prawn sandwich brigade' was coined by Roy Kean, a cuntish but genius Manchester United player. He had the audacity to call a percentage of his Man U fanbase as 'prawn sandwich munchers' cos he reckoned that all these post European 96ers were/are more bothered about getting their corporate grub than watching the game and getting behind the team.

It has nothing to do with SLINT.

I retract my earlier comments as I would love to see Slint but have not got the energy, contacts or my act together enough to get tickets to see them.

I mean for fucks sake, I would love to go to ATP but have not got three other friends sufficiently interested in post rock.
Basically, I have no friends.

What always made me laugh about that comment is that prawn sandwichs are always the cheapest option in shops, costing more than the (to pick popular examples) ham or cheese sandwichs.

Yeah. Prawn's are essentially aquatic woodlice. Prawn sarnies = you can keep 'em.

two months pass...
right, i'm dumb: i've got four tickets for this, but i won't be in the country! anyone want them (for face value)? or have suggestions as to how i can easily sell them on?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 17 February 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

4? That's a bit greedy - what happened to the other three people?

Chewhabadoo, Thursday, 17 February 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

they won't be in the country either (one is with me, others somewhere else).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

So. Who else is going to this then?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

So. This was really fucking good.

Best moments: those first few notes when it hits you that that really is Slint standing there playing. OMG - just how exciting was that?

Last two songs - Washer and err, Good Morning (??? I think, I'm no good with titles) - those worked better than than a lot of the rest of the set, which left me a bit cold.

Still on the whole, I had a merry old time (with apologies to Julio & Matt!!)

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

really helluva good. nosferatu man a highlight for me.
loved the matching hoodies.
and i'm sure pajo is getting younger rather than older.

.....and it was my girlfriend that fainted halfway thru the set - i think the excitement really got to her. I really appreciated the way the bar staff charged me for a coke as she was slumped semi-conscious against the back wall ....cunts

One comment:

Buy a couple of extra guitars and hire a roadie, other than that it was pretty fine, but it did seem a little cold and clinical.

Had a good time though.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not born showmen, are they? Good stuff though... I'm rubbish w/ the titles from Tweez but a couple of songs from that that I'd otherwise bypassed were surprisingly great, having almost doom metal guitars going on

DJ Mencap0))), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Who sung and played guitar on 'Don, Aman'? I couldn't see very well but it definitely wasn't McMahan (he did one verse, but not the main vocal)

Jason J, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Call me dense but I've only just figured out why Monade reminded me of Stereolab so much. Duh!

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone know who the support is tonight - i was looking forward to seeing mark kozelek but i see hes pulled out.....

maracas (maracas), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

bad wizard are replacing mark kozelek apparently.

mark h, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going tonight! Who are Bad Wizard? Anyone know who else is supporting?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

think it'll jst be bad wizard - monade were the only support last night.

maracas (maracas), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

in the beginning i thought it was a little cold and calculated. some good / great moments for sure, and the songs hold up well. i was wondering if they were phoning it in a bit though. from what i've read they have been practicing a lot and i think that it was actually kind of an over-practiced sound. though not the most charismatic performers, it seemed like they were playing without the swagger that could have made it a better experience. they have obviously spent a lot of time working on re-learning these songs, but a little more recklessness (i'm not exactly sure what i mean here) would have might have made for a better show. i really wanted to be blown away by "glenn" and "rhoda" but they both came up a little short. both "breadcrumb trail" and "good morning captain" were awesome.

marcg (marcg), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Britt spoke and played guitar on Don, Aman.

What was with the extra guitarist? Has Brian forgotten how to play guitar and sing at the same time?

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I got more into it as the evening went on. had a gd time. xp
