So, Steps have broken up. What lessons have they left us with?

I'm really interested in this, as Steps rise coincided with my detachment with pop music gossip: I've heard most of their songs, but couldn't put faces to names. So how does this differ from hearing the same news about S Club 7?

I'm also not suggesting that they need to have done anything more serious than produce abba-lite and prove that Pete Waterman still has it. I just thought it would be interesting to see what lessons ILM could pick from such paltry bones.
