POX Tracks from your own count(r)y

Thought this would be an interesting thread. All ILM'ers should pick their ten (or more...) favourite tracks by acts from their own country.

Note: This task may be a bit too easy (or difficult) for UK or US citizens, with the dominant part that those two countries have in popular music. Thus, Brits should only pick tracks that do actually come from their part of Britain (that is, for instance, somebody who is from England should not pic Scottish or Welsh tracks).

Anyway, here is my take:

The Best tracks by Norwegian acts:

1. When I Hurt Best - Animal Farm
2. Agnar Mykle - Tre Små Kinesere
3. Graveyard Paradise - 1-2-6
4. The Swing Of Things - a-ha
5. Sunday People - The Monroes
6. Crash - Pogo Pops
7. All We Have Is The Past - Popol Ace
8. Man Inside My Head - Pogo Pops
9. The Art Of Living - Popol Ace
10.De Skulle Begrave En Konge Stor - Jan Eggum
11.English Car - Animal Farm
12.Under Snø - Dollie
13.Alain Delon - The Margarets
14.Ingen Blir Igjen - Tre Små Kinesere
15.Just a Little Teardrop - Pussycats
16.Tree Of Love - Difference
17.Two Way Monologue - Sondre Lerche
18.A Place Nearby - Lene Marlin
19.Alarmen Går - Jan Eggum
20.The Weight Of The Wind - a-ha

I managed to stumble across the Cicero album on Soulseek the other day. It's... not brilliant.

A Kiwi list without anything written by the Finn brothers is of course pure blasphemy, but... :-)

-- Geir Hongro (geirhon...), November 28th, 2004.

i would rather consider them australians.. still lucy's list is a little biased! good pick on chants r'n'b though.. though id prolly rank the avengers 'love, hate, revenge' (as latter covered by the superb terminals) as a superior cut. i'd ad:

wreck small speakers on expensive stereos - all of this
the clean - point that thing somewhere else
the stones - down and around
alec bathgate - should i wake up?
axel grinders - apparatus of love
scorched earth policy - sunset on the loading zone

+ every other song ever written by mick elborado, about a million renderers / terminals / SEP / victor dimisich / plagal grind / pin group / bilders / king loser etc etc tracks..

Hey Hull Hole!

Magoo have been doing their usual thing of spending aeons in their studio and not playing as many gigs as they ought to. However, I'm pretty sure that they've re-signed with Global Warming and their new album (which has been ready for months) should be out in well... a period of time. And yes, they are huge GBVists, I once saw them play an entire GBV covers set as "Goaded by Vices".

Magoo's website

The Stupids were from S*ff*lk.

Nah, I don't like that one. Too Russian! I'm allergic to all that gypsy-derived Dm-Am-E-Am stuff, which, of course, makes me a very finicky customer when it comes to Russian pop.

Uh, the only Texan artists who don't cause me to break out into a painful rash are:

1.  Janis Joplin
2.  Buddy Holly
3.  Stevie Ray Vaughan
4.  Erykah Badu
5.  Boz Scaggs
6.  Norah Jones
7.  13th Floor Elevators
8.  Roy Orbison
9.  Shawn Colvin
10. Bowling for Soup (but mainly for that "1985" song)

Very few of the above I would actually sorta give a ringing endorsement of/for. The rest... well, at least they're not: Willie Nelson, the Dixie Chicks, Destiny's Child, Clint Black, Jay Perez, Flaco Jimenez, Asleep at the Wheel, George Strait, Ruben Ramos, Steve Earle, Latin Breed, or any of the other music folks from The Great State Of that I hate with the firey passion of a thousand Texas summers.

It seems there may be enough demand for an ILM Best of Canada poll.

I know ‘Aftermath’ is a massive tune, but I didn’t mean to list it twice. Replace it you’re your favourite Mekons, ABC, Def Leppard , Beaumont Hannant track (or v. early Scritti Politi, Soft Cell at a stretch).

Hopefully fellow Yorkshire lad Gareth will come out of hibernation and do a better one.
