Top 50 singles .

Aside from Starsailor and Gorillaz, this seems a quite respectable top 11.

What do you reckon?

i actually thought the albums one was slightly better. i got to agree with the jay-z and daft punk ones obviously, but the top 10 wasn't that good, only missy, the strokes and MOP come anywhere near being acceptable. the excerable Outkast single and the most overrated song in living memory (Kylie) were inevitable i suppose, 13 through 50 had enough reasonable ones to make this ok

"Ms. Jackson" execrable? Gareth, you perplex me.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Thursday, 27 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gonzales -'Take Me To Broadway': I heard this. *This* is execrable.

Andrew WK at #4?... somebody's palms got greased for that coup.

The idea that Timbaland only produced 3 of the top 50 singles this year is ridiculous.

Miranda, Thursday, 27 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Miranda, beyond listing Missy twice, what else of Timbo's should be on there? Petey Pablo for one doesn't strike me as the type who ends up on most crit. polls.

The Moldy Peaches? Linkin Park? Puh-leez.

I never realised The Avalanches track at #20 was a post-band breakup lament by Martin Carr.

I like 1, 6, 11, 15, 41 and 43. I haven't heard more than half of them. I don't own any of them.

Increasingly, my reaction to these charts is "yeah, s'about right", without feeling the slightest urge to check out those names to which I can't put sounds. My reaction to The Wire chart was only a teensy bit more animated.

I've got 18 of those singles.. I'm sure I had a higher percentage of last year's top 50. Must try harder. Or something.

Aaliyah - 'We Need A Resolution' (?)

Michael Dieter, Thursday, 27 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Michael - I meant apart from Aaliyah, Missy and Bubba (which are all on the list). "We Need A Resolution" is my favourite single of the year actually.

INDIAN CARPET. and lick shots.

I was going to make that joke especially for you Michael. But then I didn't and now I see you're quite self-sufficient in this regard.

One learns to amuse oneself at Xmas.

Michael Jones, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Indian Carpet" definitely. And although I agree that "Raise Up" isn't going to be a critics' pick, this is merely because they're all wrong. "Raise Up" is perfect even with that buffoon Petey Pablo spitting all over it.

Miranda, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what, indian carpet was a single? hm... well, song is brilliant, but All Y All is even better (whole "indecent proposal" is masterpiece)!

Okay, the last list topic I swear! I like 11 out 50. Nr. 1 & 2 extremely on the dough. 'Romeo', 'Digital Love', 'Resolution' and 'Witness' should have been top-10 material. Peeves? Wh*t* Str*p*s are okay I guess, that single decidedly is not okay. "Stop Your Cryin": whadafuck?!?
