I didn't think that I would like them but KMEL was playing out some stuff today and it was really good. Are they really "East Oakland's finest"?

"93 until infinity" is all you need

te gyge, Monday, 29 November 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

otm. But that album is great - perhaps the finest thing to emerge from the whole Heiroglyphics crew (MAYBE tied with Casual's Fear Itself). Definitely one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. They lost the plot horribly after that, though...

Another recommendation for 93 'til Infinity.

supercub, Monday, 29 November 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

They played the video for "93 Til" on MTV2 the other night!

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I DO have a backpack you know! They're useful things!

it turns up quite a bit these days. weird because between Feb '94 until a couple of years ago i was desperate to see it again but never could. it's a great video because it captures the beautiful Californian countryside spectacularly well! Kanye West ought to do his next video sitting up a Giant Redwood - with Stacey Dash, K.I.S.S.I.N.G. natch

Anyone know where that melodic hook / bassline they use on "I call myself the man" comes from. That's been haunting me for years.

All the "Heiro Oldies" tapes (now probably CDs) are worthwhile. 2 songs to seek out: "Step To My Girl" & "Cab Fare." Otherwise, '93 till is ice cold classic.

cool. Cheers JaXoN

phil jones (interstar), Thursday, 2 December 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

did Nate or someone comment on them as a kind of malign influence re: snoozy jazzy hiphop recently? i can't remember where.

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 2 December 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This "hip" friend of mine in college would make fun of me for listening to them, like they were some sort of fad or something. '93 til is a great album.
I've never heard Fear Itslef! I remember seeing it used many years ago, and thinking 'well it must suck if it's in here with Michael Bolton and Billy Squier. Then my friend said 'get that shit, holmes!', but it was already sold when i went back.
Del's "No Need for Alarm" never gets love.
"Third Eye Vision" is pretty good, too.

oops (Oops), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

fear itself is fucking great

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Del's future development. There's a song on it that is also sampled on Anniemal, I thnk.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i never liked No need for alarm much. The Extra Prolific disc is nice though.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

also: is the domino who produces for heiro the same dude who did sweet potato pie? it couldn't be, could it? ...but same area, same era...

Should I buy this CD? The song "93 til Infinity" is one of my favorite songs ever, and I haven't heard anything else.. Is it one of those albums where there are 2 or 3 great standouts that are worth downloading? Because if that's the case, I would rather save my money, but if every song is as outstanding as the title track, I'm down for buying.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 13 June 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

just buy it. highschool me loved it

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Personally, I don't like their sound that much, but if you dig the single, the album won't disappoint you. It's a solid effort.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Keep in mind, Tuomas likes that arrested development album ;)

deej.., Monday, 13 June 2005 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

if you like that single, you should like just about every track on the album
