List Albums With Singles Added After Initial LP Release

Search wasn't working for me, so stop me if we've done this.

The worst is when they a) replace album track(s) with the newer single(s) as on:
The Clash (White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Clash City Rockers, I Fought The Law, Complete Control, Jail Guitar Doors)
XTC "Skylarking" (Dear God), though the recent reissue corrected this.

Slightly less annoying is b) the old slap it in the middle where the side breaks would be on LP and cassette trick:
The Smiths (This Charming Man)
The Smiths "Meat is Murder" (How Soon is Now?)
New Order "Power, Corruption & Lies" (Blue Monday)
(I just ripped these three to iTunes this morning without the offending singles to see if they'll flow better...this is probably a minor act of rockism, never tried it before)

Infinitely preferable to either for me is c) just tack the fucker(s) onto the end as bonus tracks:
Lemonheads "It's A Shame About Ray" (Mrs. Robinson)
ummm....most recently I guess Usher "Confessions" (My Boo and a bunch of other crap I don't care about)

List more examples. Name the added single(s) and specify a, b or c.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

US version of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED is guilty of (a) I believe.

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to remember James did a) with Gold Mother.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Killing Joke by Killing Joke (1979) - they added "Change".
No More Heroes by the Stranglers - they added "Straighten Out" and "Five Minutes".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn Sean, I forgot Hendrix.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember being really pissed off to find the Jason Nevins remix of Rock Star not on the American NERD release, back in the day when I thought they were the 'new exciting thing!'

Abby (abby mcdonald), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

in the 25-or-more-years-later department, there's fleetwood mac's rumours, which added the b-side "silver springs" smack in the middle, where the LP side break would've been, on the deluxe reissue, while neglecting to mention anywhere in the deluxe liner notes that they had done this. i am angered mostly by the latter.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the US versions of a lot of early Elvis Costello LPs: "Watching The Detectives" tacked onto the end of side 1 of the original US LP of My Aim Is True, and at the end of the album on most subsequent reissues; "Radio Radio" tacked onto the end of This Years Model; "Peace, Love & Understanding" tacked onto the end of Armed Forces.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I didn't know that about MAIT! I thought Watching the Detectives seemed a bit out of place...

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, what really annoys me is that even on the recent 2-disc Rhino reissue it's at the end of the first disc, instead of the beginning of the bonus disc. I'd much prefer to keep the album ending with "Waiting For The End Of The World".

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

the US versions of elvis c did more than tack on singles. they also deleted tracks from the british versions to make room for them. so it's basically an example of (a) in the original question.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd much prefer to keep the album ending with "Waiting For The End Of The World".
It sure as hell will on my iTunes now that I know this!

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

New Order also tacked on 'state of the nation' at the end of brotherhood, ruining an otherwise perfect ending the to the record.

folks who add remixes of singles w/ new collaborators to beef up sales to thread: Janet, JLo, Missy, Im looking at you.

Didnt the futureheads also add on 3 songs to their US release? Perhaps I just wasnt paying attention to slsk.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ramones removed "Carbona Not Glue" from Leave Home and replaced it with "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker." This has been corrected on the recent Rhino reissue (the one with a shitload of live tracks added at the end).

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I was gonna put that one, but it should be noted that it was done for legal reasons...

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dylan's 'Shot of Love' - the B-side "The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar" was added.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Kill 'Em All got a few new songs in later pressings.

Some pressings of Nevermind didn't have "Endless, Nameless" as the untitled track. This was corrected on all pressings later.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Easy" got shunted on to Faith No More's "Angel Dust" about a year after it's first release.

Jonathan Shaw (Arooga), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Easy" got shunted on to Faith No More's "Angel Dust" about a year after its first release.

Jonathan Shaw (Arooga), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

So good they posted it twice.

Jonathan Shaw (Arooga), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

My Nevermind has no Endless Nameless (It's still the same one I bought in January 1992).
My Angel Dust has no Easy (I bought a new copy in 2002).

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have easy on cassingle along with some german drinking song as the bside. I heart fnm.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, I had the entire "Easy (Songs To Make Love To)" EP. There was also a cover of Dead Kennedys "Let's lynch the Landlord".

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Anniemal?

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't they do this with the debut album of the Stone Roses -- adding Fool's Gold on to the end? (maybe when it was released in US?)

Matt Sab (Matt Sab), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Like, every US Beatles album be-4 Sgt. P. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" on Meet the Beatles but not on With the Beatles, etc.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure I'm violating the technicalities of the thread with that one, but so be it.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Buffalo Springfield's '67 debut removed "Baby Don't Scold Me" to add the hit "For What It's Worth".

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Cocteau Twins - Treasure, the cassette version has the Aikea Guinea EP as a bonus.

Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels, the CD has the Sunburst And Snowblind EP.

Pet Shop Boys - Actually, "Always On My Mind" was added to it after it became a hit.

Seb (Seb), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The Zutons released Don't Ever Think Too Much as fruit of their second album sessions at Toe Rag Studios. It was then added on to their re-released first album. In a couple of weeks time they're releasing Confusion as a single, which was already on the album in the first place.

Kids, I don't wanna hate on you. But you do make it so very easy sometimes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The version I have of the first Stone Roses album has the 7" version of "Elephant Stone" at track 3, plus an unlisted "Fools Gold" tacked on the end.

Psychocandy had "Some Candy Talking" put in at the end of side 1 didn't it?

haitch the carnivore (haitch), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The Stereophonics' J.E.E.P. had Handbags and Gladrags added onto it. I know this because I used to work round the corner from a Virgin Megastore that had huge posters advertising this fact in the window, and I kind of wondered "why bother".

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

new versions of Patti Smith "Horses" have "My Generation" on it now.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 2 December 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

LPs? Right:

Happy Mondays: Squirrel and Gman 24 hour party people plastic face carnt smile (white out) has the single "24 hour party people" added, and "Desmond" removed.

Bjork: Play dead added to "Debut"

Ian Dury: Sex and drugs and rock and roll added to "New boots and panties"

laters...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 2 December 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin Stephenson - Boat To Bolivia ... oddly enough, it was the title track (cf World Shut Your Mout)

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 2 December 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Lemonheads added their "Mrs. Robinson" cover to "shame about ray" on the second release. (they also changed the title of "my drug buddy" to just "buddy".)

Re: PSB, "Actually" the re-release added a 12" single of "Always on my mind" as a double-pack. Later editions do not contain the single, and it found it permanent place on the "introspective" LP, albeit in a 9 min. house version. Boy did they screw up that release.

dewey, Thursday, 2 December 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

In the past, an album had two sides, and a bonus track would often fit in perfectly as an opener of side 2 for instance. Like Madonna did when she added "Into The Groove" to "Like a Virgin".

What annoys me about that one, however, is that, to this day, "Into The Groove" is still recorded at a lower sound level than the rest of the album.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 December 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

All beggars banquet Fall cds sprinkle singles tracks willy-nilly all over the place.

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Thursday, 2 December 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The (second?) US release of Duran Duran's first album added "Is There Something I Should Know" to it along with the shorter mix of "Planet Earth."

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 2 December 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Teardrop Explodes Kilamanjaro had "Reward" added. I assume it was a single.

Debuts by The Cure and Everything But the Girl got completely mangled to include singles for U.S. consumption, however the albums were re-titled, so I leave it to the panel to judge whether these qualify.

Curt (cgould), Thursday, 2 December 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

obviously the LTM reissues do this all the time, but this is a GOOD THING.

in the case of SXXV's "love and hate" the tracks are actually resequenced to compensate (fear not: they give you the original tracklisting too). the result is an astonishingly good album that leaves the original for dead.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 December 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
Totally forgot Zappa/Mothers "Absolutely Free", which is B (they put the "Why Don'tcha Do Me Right"/"Big Leg Emma" single in the middle). Those are cool little garage rock songs but they totally fuck up the flow of AF.

I got the job because I was so mean, while somehow appearing so kind. (AaronHz), Thursday, 17 March 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Sean Paul added Baby Boy to subsequent pressings of Dutty Rock. THey also dropped the skits. Ergo, classic.

deej., Thursday, 17 March 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I believe "Born to Roll", the remix to "Jeep Ass Niguh" was added to a 2nd edition of Masta Ace's "Slaughtahouse"

tremendoid (tremendoid), Thursday, 17 March 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Didn't this also happen with one of those early Joan Jett albums, when "Little Drummer Boy" was (maybe temporarily) added?

xhuxk, Thursday, 17 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

"Under Pressure", I think, was added to later editions of the album version of Queen's "Greatest Hits". Never made it to the CD edition, though, instead it was put on Vol. 2 when that one was released just prior to Mercury's death in 1991.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 17 March 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

They tagged Forget Her on the end of Jeff Buckleys Grace last year. Shame because Dream Brother is way that album should end.

dmun, Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

The newest reissue of the original Queen Greatest Hits adds "I Love My Car" and live versions of "Under Pressure" and "Tie Your Mother Down"

I got the job because I was so mean, while somehow appearing so kind. (AaronHz), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

x-post
Mine ends with Dream Brother, but i may have bought it in '03 or '02. Don't remember.

I got the job because I was so mean, while somehow appearing so kind. (AaronHz), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

The first Roxy Music album had "Virginia Plain" added once that became a hit.

'haitch' (haitch), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

woah - really?

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Against Perfection by Adorable: US release bookended by "Sunshine Smile" and "I'll Be Your Saint" - which is a good thing, really, because both of those tracks are far superior to everything sandwiched in between.

Sexy MFA (Hexy M.F.), Friday, 14 April 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Nobody still mentioned Oasis - Definitely Maybe and (c) with "Whatever"

karl76 (karl76), Friday, 14 April 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Thomas Dolby - Golden Age Of Wireless - added She Blinded Me With Science, and I think One of Our Submarines but removed Wreck of the Fairchild - a nice little instrumental. Also completely re jigged running order.

garax of the chocolate eggs, Friday, 14 April 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

Madonna's "Like a Virgin" added "Into The Groove" in the middle, but did so at such an early stage that a lot of us only know the album that way.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 14 April 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't even know that ever happened....so I guess I'm really old

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 14 April 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)
