cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What album was My Weapon on? I don't even know if I've heard it.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

my weapon is a barry andrews song on GO 2 and it is absolutely horrible.

take a guess what barry's "weapon" is.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

OK then that explains it. I've never even tried to listen to fucking Go 2.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

well, that's ridiculous. it's a fine album.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(except for MY WEAPON)

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"My Weapon"

I dunno wot she got
I dunno wot she got
I dunno what she got but it seems to have a grip upon me
No telling where she learn the things she do to me
And I don't know what she done wrong but I want to hurt her

(wanna) take it out on her
Take it out on her
Take it out on her
With my weapon

She's so exacting that she tells me when I go wrong
She doesn't value the attention she receives
She says I'm taking all the time but I'm not returning
(that's right)

'Do this' but she won't do that
Lying beside me like a parcel of fat
Hot love - cold sweat - feel her beneath me wanna crush her to death
She tries to justify the people who despise me
She puts her finger on things she knows will hurt
And I can't defend myself till we turn the lights off then

I dunno wot she got - my weapon
My stinking weapon

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, I guess it's true about baldness and testosterone. Can we then expect the Veils to pull something similar down the line?

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh please, that's a Limp Bizkit song innit?

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

'Do this' but she won't do that
Lying beside me like a parcel of fat

As one who's heard the discography, I'd actually say this is sub-Durst.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Well cutty, nice to see someone else HONOR THE (Sacrificial Bon)FIRE.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, that song is the underrated track on skylarking.

but--aaron, you have no english settlement OR black sea songs on your list!

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Sue me.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

thoe are arguably the best ones. IMHO, anyway.

english settlement is playing right now in tribute to this thread.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot "Living Through Another Cuba," which rocks mightily.

Is "My Weapon" a silly song? Certainly. Is it stupid? Certainly. Have they gone onto basically disown it? Yes. So what. It's still a great, silly stupid song, and I shan't hear another word about it being misogynist from the same cats who champion rappers who refer to women as bitches etc.

I also quite like the gleefully blasphemous "Jumping in Gomorrah". Go 2, despite what many an ill-informed ass hat might strenuosly lean over coffee tables to tell you, is actually a damn fine album.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Go 2 supposed to be some 'concept record' all in the character of a guy that slags off work, gets hammered at the pub and hates everyone in relationships? That's my only defense of My Weapon. I actually love the beat in that song, but I can't get past the lyrics.

caspar (caspar), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

living through another cuba is HUGE. the drums.. HUGE.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure Go 2 is good if Are You Receiving Me? is on it, but I haven't heard any of the other tunes (heard that one on Fossil Fuel).

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I am almost certain this has been done before, but as ILX doesn't allow searching for three letter words, I wasn't able to find out.

Anyway, my take

1. Grass
2. The Smartest Monkeys
3. Here Comes President Kill Again
4. That's Really Super Supergirl
5. Then She Appeared
6. Great Fire
7. Dear Madam Barnum
8. The Meeting Place
9. Summer's Cauldron
10.Dear God

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

You could always search for "respectable street" in keywords

X T C P O X

there's also a OPO thread and a S/D thread.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

only one dude on the other thread had sacrificial bonfire, fuck

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Cutty: If I had to pick one eack from those records it would be Respectable Street and Senses Working Overtime, and I guess I'd lose the White Music songs to do it.
I guess I just figured more people would have those two than WM songs anyway...

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

OK. I notice my list has changed slightly. :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, you got all political geir!

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"Grass" isn't particularly political, is it? I know the two others in my Top 3 are and I love the lyrics in both :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i was talking about #2 and #3.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone that doesn't have Mayor of Simpleton on their list is obv. internalising some past trauma.

I'm so glad someone else cited "Across this Antheap".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 December 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)
