Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls Query

Does anyone know what the song is that is playing in the background when Kelly first goes to Aunt Susan's boutique? It doesn't seem to be on any version of the soundtrack that has been released.

I'm simply in a rage!

I really wish Criterion would hurry their asses up and put out the DVD they've been dangling for years... because this is my happening, and it's freaking me out!
Once they do, I will try the song I.D.!

Roger Ebert might know. Ask him maybe.

I want to read this:

his book on Andy Milligan was amazing, didn't read the one on the hippie

I read that 20th Century Fox is considering a remake, which is holding the DVD release up. If they decide not to do it, Criterion will release the DVD (presumably in 2005). Also heard that Ebert's recorded a commentary.

I say the only thing that could redeem the very notion of remaking such a time-specific piece of cinematic perfection would be casting Sleater-Kinney as the Carrie Nations. I can hear Corin's opening shriek now...

Rich (Rich), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The Carrie Nations were way better than Sleater Kinney.

i think all the incidental music in the movie was just the strawberry alarm clock dude.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the soundtracks only have the music done by Stu Phillips (and Bob Stone) or the Strawberry Alarm Clock, so my guess is that maybe William Loose (who is credited with providing additional music) might be responsible for that one. This link is to the BMI database, which lists the forementioned people plus a fellow named Harold Battiste.

That sequence in the movie for "In the Long Run," ending with the band in their glittery dresses performing in a lounge to rapturous applause, gives me the tingles. I mean, really really happy. Misty eyed.

Also...why did they leave off "Once I Had Love" on the latest soundtrack re-iss? It's not as good as the other vocal songs, but it would be nice to have in any case (but I found an MP3 of it here.)

The best thing about "In the Long Run" is the *FIVE* concluding "Come a rainy day"s. It's seriously epic.

Rich (Rich), Thursday, 2 December 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

When he was paying tribute to Meyer on his show, Ebert said the BVD dvd is coming out in 2005. This is going to be the greatest dvd ever.

I second the awesomeness that is "In the Long Run". The original soundtrack was sung by a different singer, one with a much better voice than Dolly Read's, much harder-edged, and the versions of both "In the Long Run" "Find It" are pretty killer. I forget the singer's name...

Yes, I thought it might be William Loose, but this specific search doesn't seem to be very googlable. However, I've heard from some sources that this particular piece might be library music or some such - the fact that towards the end there is another piece of borrowed music (The Sorcerer's Apprentice thingy or whatever it is called) lends credence to this possibility.

one of the best soundracks, from one of the best films ever made. i got a double lp bootleg years ago, which has a lot of instrumental snippets and dialog bits in addition to the carrie nation/strawberry alarm clock/sandpipers stuff. unfortunately, it's in currently in a basement in new york and i'm of no real help.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 December 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been trying to find the Party Scene instrumental for ages ... I even contact the Strawberry Alarm Clock who didn't know, as it was from a library album.
