here goes

Every time i hang out at my girlfriend's place, her roommate is always, ALWAYS listening to the worst crap imaginable. like .... 'Kenny G Updates the Christmas Classics' or whatever it's called. upon being asked in disbelief if that is actually what we're listening to, she says

"Kenny G is my favorite, shut up. I love Kenny G."
"your favorite what, exactly?"
"my favorite everything."

Now I understand the rabid Jack Johnson and David Grey obsession a little better.

IT DOESN'T STOP!!!! KILL ME NOW

I give to you Mannheim Steamroller. Hell might be watching one of their Xmas specials.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 December 2004 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Is this also the thread where I gloat about how much I love C-mas music (not necessarily tha G or Mannheim, mind you)?

Or should I start another one?

max davenport (axehead), Thursday, 2 December 2004 05:39 (twenty years ago)

Well I started a thread for good Xmas albums for this year, but I suspect there's a general Xmas music thread in the archive...

my boss has his cell phone ringer programmed to play "Frosty the Snowman" whenever he gets a call. And he gets A LOT OF FUCKING CALLS.

I'm with max - hurray for Christmas! I'm simply having a wonderful Christmastime.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 December 2004 12:16 (twenty years ago)

Christmas music is one good reason why Hannukah rules.
My sister-in-law, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, has every fucking Christmas CD by anybody ever! We inevitably visit them at some point during the joyous holiday season, and are subjected to a full day of her horrible taste in music. I try to dull the pain with alcohol and endless small talk about sports. I hate the holidays...

"Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives drives me to drink.

I've heard so many random xmas tracks on the radio, even that XTC "Thanks For Christmas" track, but I never hear the Flaming Lips' "Christmas At The Zoo," one of the few holiday-themed tracks I find genuinely affecting.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago)

When I came to work yesterday, there was xmas musik playing on a blaster in our staff room. This, coupled with our secretary listening to the stuff for two weeks already is really not very nice at all.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:09 (twenty years ago)

So far I'm enjoying the season. The first time I hear Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, though, somebody's going to die.

I believe that the Mariah Carey Christmas album is the real reason Al Qaeda wants us all dead.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:54 (twenty years ago)

the only christmas album I own.

I was young(er).

Don't forget the fantastic Billy Corgan christmas track!!!

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 3 December 2004 04:16 (twenty years ago)

erm 'fantastic' should be in sarcastic scare quotes.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 3 December 2004 04:17 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

there is some kind of cover of "blue christmas" on the radio right now, i believe it being performed by some kind of pale imitation of elmer fudd

I was playing Scrabble with a friend a few weeks back. She insisted on putting on some seasonal sampler that had classic x-mas hits sung by people like Chrissie Hynde and Bonnie Raitt who knows who else. It was awful. I genuinely think she was just trying t sabotage my game.

I beat her 3 out of 4 though.
