Help finding a track...

For my psychology project I need to find some music that sounds like the city (cars, industrial sounds and the like) while still having some kind of musical structure to it. If any songs come to mind then post them here, it would be much appreciated.

Jon Hassell's 'Voiceprint' has a structure but it's pretty batshit insane to the point of annoyance.

The Art of Noise track is a little *too* musical. Unfortuantely I can't find the others. I thought Monstertruckdriver, but I'm not sure if it's 'city' enough. Argh, this is tricky.

There's an old DJ Spooky mix cd called Necropolis: The Dialogic Project which has lots of illbient style sloooow beats and city sounds mixed in.

Either that or Steve Reich's City Life.

Edgard Varese's 'Ionisation'? First composition to feature sirens I think, but there are probably a lot of better examples (for your purposes anyhow) lurking about in the realms of modernist composition (someone who knows what they're talking about to thread!).

Louis Andriessen might be worth checking out.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions, I'll get on the case. The best I've got on cd is Cabaret Voltaire's 'Diskono Alternate'

oh.

and this track was finished/released prior to MARRS/Coldcut.

Blue Nile's "Automobile Noise" off their first - listen to the Real Audio here. There's also their b-side "The Wires are Down". Been a while since I've heard it - it might not be what you're after.

Any Philip Glass fit the bill?

Mark, you are the man! That would work perfectly. I'll check out the rest still to see if it can be bettered. Love to you all.
