His new single, produced by Dr. Dre. Sounds like In Da Club pt.2. What do you think about it? Nothing special, in my opinion.

For a second I was imagining a "Wanksta" mashup over "Even the Sea Sides Against Us"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 December 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I heard it on the radio last night. I kinda like the beat. It's pretty obviously the next In Da Club, but then again, I've completely stopped checking for him so the beat at least was a pleasant surprise.

"On Fire" pt. 2.

I'd say he's not trying very hard, but I guess that's his charm, so I'll just say he's not doing a very good job of not trying very hard.

He sounds like he's falling asleep

Me too, Ned...me too...

IOW it sounds like 50 Cent!

Hahah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 December 2004 23:02 (twenty years ago)

the hook is catchy, but the beat is dr dre on auto pilot (even more so than he has been lately). 50 sounds tired, dre sounds like hes asleep. hes probably just waiting to snuggle up to 50 once the vocal is done. and they can both snooze their way through the album.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:05 (twenty years ago)

Yeh, this is mediocre. The synth in unison with the hook is pretty cool. Dre really needs to kill it with the orchestra hits, they were never that great and seem even more ubiquitous with producers after "In Da Club." "Lose My Breath" suffers for the same reason.

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:15 (twenty years ago)

the orchestra hits are the worst bit of this beat. oddly, the eerie synths in the background, should be way in the front. they are the best bit. but this is about as good as the beat to just lose it. dre is mediocrity.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:16 (twenty years ago)

man, what a boring rapper. Everyone sounds half-asleep, I agree, and not in an interesting There's A Riot Goin On kinda way either.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 3 December 2004 00:16 (twenty years ago)

i think 50 vocalled this on his mobile phone on the way to bed from THE CLUB.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:20 (twenty years ago)

Are the Dre beats of this past year the beats that were supposed to be on "The Most Musically Advanced Hip-Hop Album Ever"? Or is he saving those for something special?

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:24 (twenty years ago)

supposedly Detox is back on now. time will tell. I really haven't been on Dre's slick orch-hit post-Chronic 2001 style ever, myself. In Da Club, Family Affair, etc, can't stand that bland shit.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:30 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember the last Dre beat I liked. Maybe some of Eminem's early singles...? Did he do "Just Lose It"? Cuz the crappy synth beats in that remind me of this as well... I'm kinda done with all this electro-minimalism in hip-hop, when it's done badly its just awful. (I do love "Drop It Like It's Hot tho)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 3 December 2004 00:32 (twenty years ago)

It does feel like Dre is overdue for a return to quality... maybe it won't happen again?

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:33 (twenty years ago)

treading water.
