Oh go on, you know it's true. He's really a trendy Green on Red and not the new Gram Parsons.......

Wow, Green On Red... I haven't heard that name for awhile. I had a bunch of their records, like 12 years ago. They were cool, a little spotty perhaps. Ryan Adams bugs the shit out of me.

They were really quite quite good live - huge drony guitar sound when not a lot of people were going for drone, very ominous something's-gonna-happen feeling to a lot of their songs. Better than Ryan Adams by a bit, I'd say.

He hasn't yet learned the difference between quantity vs quality.

'Not the new Gram Parsons'? Cool, who needs another rich-boy charlatan who was a crap singer and even worse writer? Now, if people were saying "the new Gene Clark", I might pay attention.

to dave q:

gram parsons was a hero to most. i enjoy flying burrito brothers but the solo albums? gene clark wins that fight.

the new gene clark? easy. velvet crush.

ryan adams is the bryan adams of trendoid alternative countrified rock.

I still can't get over the fact that he's called 'Ryan Adams'

But... but the first album was so GOOD.

I like the second one two, possibly I'm being lenient after loving the first one so much. There are flashes of the brilliance of Heartbreaker on Gold. it's such a cliche, but seriously check out Heartbreaker, any of you. It's fantastic, and *it's* the album that got the Gram Parsons comparisons, mainly because of "My Sweet Carolina" which featured Emmylou Harris so you know how that goes. It's silly anyway, he always seemed more like Hank than Gram if you ask me.

He's not even the new Steve Forbert.
