I don't really know the details or history of this recording, but apparently it's floating around out there in file-sharing land. Anyone have any opinions about it? Better than the original?

Tapedeck? C

Huh?

Oh, the error in the title. Uh yeah, ignore that last "'s."

"Hey:

I have conflicting feelings right now. On one hand, I want this forum to be a free-flowing, unsupervised series of exchanges between peers. on the other hand, Cheap Trick are friends and clients, and I don't know how they feel about this bootlegged copy of a session floating around out there. The bootleg didn't come from here (I have my suspicions about which of their former employees used a cassette dub to "get even" with them), but the session was recorded here, and that places a responsibility on us (me) to be circumspect in discussing it.

Please don't embarrass the studio by trading bootlegs of sessions from here on our website. If you want to "turn" someone "on" to something like where to get bootlegs of sessions done here, please do it privately.

A general discussion of file trading appears elsewhere on this forum with many resources listed in this regard. I mention this because I am about to pull a dick admin move and remove the link in this thread. In this thread, such a link is rude to Cheap Trick (who are friends and clients) and inappropriate for us (me) (Electrical Audio).

Dunno but..., Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

haha - I love Albini's screen name. nerdo-extraordinaire.

So... has anyone heard it?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little confused as to why they would re-record the entire album. why would the band want to bother?

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently they thought that the original lacked the power that it was meant to have.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

even so, that doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would ever get released, wouldn't there be legal issues, etc.? what label would think of putting out a re-recorded version of a 30 year old album? so what's the point in spending all that time working on it...?

Hey, if it's good enough for Twisted Sister, it's good enough for Cheap Trick.

I haven't heard this new version, but a reliable source tells me that it rules.

don't get me wrong, I'd totally love to hear it. why, I might even be willing to pay money for it..

I got a copy of it off S*sk. it's very stripped down. not sure what to think yet.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not all that much different from the original In Color. Robin's vocals are a little rawer and the guitars have more bite, typical of Albini, I suppose.

Worth hearing if you're a fan but if you're expecting something radically different, you'll be disapointed.

five years pass...

This rerecorded version is way better.
