Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean all those pearls of erudition that we atempted to shared with the world here over the last couple of weeks have been lost forever?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

A quick search of the archives confirms that yes, all of our posts - together with all those threads we created with titles like "why can't I create new threads", "Woops, sorry, it apears that actually I CAN create new threads after all", "So, is this fucking thing actually working or not?" and "Help! Where has everybody gone?" - and indeed all other evidence of that strange twilight dimension where Mark and I were in imminent danger of supplanting Ned and Alex as most frequent posters - have mysteriously disappeared into some sort of black hole.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I KNOW! I was up to number 18, last time I looked.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I'm up to number nine now...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

can't say i'll miss it, i think most people have been holding back a little the last 17 days anyway so not much of quality

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked the bit with the waves of amyl nitrate in a crowded club. what thraed was that on?

:| (....), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost:
As a newbie who lived almost half his posting life under the 17-day regime, I didn't hold too much back. I think I was the number two last-30-days poster, right behind Alba.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You still are, Ken L!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i have no idea what i posted in the last 17 days. but if you could all try to remember it as being brilliantly funny and incisive (as opposed to the usual stream of pish that i'm starting up again now), i'd be much obliged.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

If those gone-missing threads and posts were still here, I feel like I could have told you almost word-for-word what was on them without having to refer to them, but now that they've vanished, some mental reflex, no doubt useful-in-jungle-not-so-useful-in-information-age, has driven them from my brain. For instance, if the subject of Captain Beefheart had come up in conversation a few days ago, I would have said, "Well, my close personal friend Stewart Osborne says..." and gone on from there, whereas now I would have to say "Uh, Captain Beefheart? Didn't he do some recording for Frank? Zappa, I mean."

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Somehow I think if we tried to recreate them the spontaneous "magic" would still be missing. Especially on that wide-ranging (not to say discursive) folk vs. country thread. That was fun and informative, even when I couldn't follow it. And I've been listening to Jerry Lee Lewis' country stuff non-stop lately as a result.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that was the main thread to be lamented. I really felt like we did a public service with that one. And the back and forth of the argument is what made it so much fun and of course, more informative.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

not brilliant: but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that Ol' Dirty's death was declared a drug OD (unless I'm not looking carefully enough)

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

well myself + niche (and others?) banged on about the GWEN STEFANI album. now over on that thread its mostly nay-saying, so can all us yay-sayers go over and repeat ourselves? there's history to think about here people.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

No there isn't.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem that mix is almost overwhelming. *thinks* now how do I download it on a 56k modem without it taking several hundred years? And how do I divide it into two so it'll fit onto two CDs?

Hmmm.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

"For instance, if the subject of Captain Beefheart had come up in conversation a few days ago, I would have said, "Well, my close personal friend Stewart Osborne says..." and gone on from there,"

I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I do vaguely remember altering just about every conceivable Beefheart song title to incorporate the word "trousers" or similar (I specifically remember being particularly pleased with "Zip Chain Puller") and then everything goes blank.

Who are all you strange people anyway? Do I know you? Who let you in here, what are you doing in my drawing room.... and what on earth has happened to all my clothes?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it was Ken L who posted "Hermie Takes Your Tonsils Out" on some kind of christmas song parody thread er summat.

uh, this is in no way a response to my close personal friend Stewart Osborne's last post.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie i'll give you a double CD next time i see you - tho when that will be i'm not sure (mail me your postal address?)

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I only ask that we please not have any more Tea Party threads. Surely that went on long enough for Tea Party fans to be happy the rest of their lives without another one. If a Tea Party thread does appear, I will consider it a bad omen.

Bimble..., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Bimble otm. Some demonic possessor almost caused me to create one yesterday called something "Hey We're Back With the New Tea Party Thread!" but I managed to successfully fight off the impulse.
