A bulk tape eraser. Oh, you said "songs."

Buddy Holly - "That'll Be the Day"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

If this is Eddie's Windshield Wiper one, then "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan. If "Drivin' My Life Away" is Eddie's Windshield Wiper one, never mind. Either way, I nominate "Steal Away" by Robbie Dupree, "Gold" by John Stewart, "Hot Summer Night" by Night, "Nobody" by Sylvia, and "Somebody's Knockin'" by Terri Gibbs.

"Gold" by John Stewart

Great tune. Chuck wins.

The scary thing is, the very first thing that came to my mind was "Somebody's Knockin'."

No one should ever have to hear "Steal Away," under any circumstances.

How about Chilliwack, "Gone, Gone, Gone"?

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rockin' With the Rhythm of the Rain," The Judds. Similar subject matter, similar riff and rhythmic feel.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

These are ALL great! But I need more.

I love the Robbie Dupree!

What is this...strange music called?

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Country cross over, circa 1978

Eddie Rabbitt was the first concert I ever went to

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Very cool!

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Weird, or maybe not weird, but "Somebody's Knockin'" was likewise the first thing in my mind. I think both songs were on the top 40 around the same time, I can't think of any other reason for the mass free association. Of course, "Somebody's Knockin'" kicks the ass of "I Love a Rainy Night" all over Rabbitt land.

Spencer is right once again, the similarity to Buddy Holly here is just plain eerie.

Bimble..., Thursday, 23 December 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Mary Beth Maybell to thread.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 23 December 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like there must be a Gail Davies cut that works here too.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 23 December 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

'Rose Colored Glasses' - John Conlee

Shimmy shimmy CoCo-pop / He made country crossover.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 23 December 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll" but that's probably been done to death.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this by any chance inspired by the song's recent appearance in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? I hadn't heard the song in a long time, but driving around listening to it on K Rose made me want to put this on a mix tape, too.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I associate this song with Dolly Parton's "2 Doors Down." So I would put it next to that.
