T/S, RFI: Rock's "1, 2, 3, 4!" vs. Broadway's "5, 6, 7, 8!"

wierd/dumb question, but here goes:

Okay so you're in a rock band. You're beginning a song...Obv. you count out "1, 2, 3, 4!"

Alternately, you're in a chorus line....you're all ready to get your jazz hands on and show off the choreography and the dude will always count off "5, 6, 7, 8!"

Is there a musical/logistical reason for this, or just different strokes for different folks?

Broadway queens fancy themselves smartre and can therefore think they can count higher than rock musicians. Being brash exhibitionists, they frequently seize the opportunity to broadcast this notion to the world.

Rock songs are measured in 4 beats to the bar.

Dance is measured in half beats, as there are more 'steps' to fit in. Choreographer counts from 5 as it takes too long to count from 1 to 8.

Hokay?
