alphonz, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:26 (twenty years ago)

with vocals as well.

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:26 (twenty years ago)

or not even like normal beats, just like throbbing and pounding and acid-y synths.

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Is Wolf Eyes too obvious a response?

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:28 (twenty years ago)

wolf eyes doesn't have bass!

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:31 (twenty years ago)

get thee to the 90s...
ICE or GOD

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:35 (twenty years ago)

i guess i want something with the sensibilities of L.S.D. but without the cheesiness and more bass and horrible computer noises.

whats that

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:37 (twenty years ago)

has anyone heard TG NOW? on the last song, it starts breaking down into this heavy tech-y shuffle beat, i swear it could almost be like t. raumschmiere or something if it was in 4/4. i want stuff like this.

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:39 (twenty years ago)

Have you heard Tarmvred? Are you familiar with the Ant-Zen label?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:52 (twenty years ago)

look for Nova Zembla stuff - Starfish Pool, Riou, Zen Paradox, PWOG. the beats can seem primitive (as can TG's) but

Savas Ysaatis. more "throb" than "gristle." the architechno of Highrise nicely spans the sounds of Nova Zembla and Chain Reaction.

Hyware/Technoise. Radboud Mens project. one disc of extreme noise and one disc of messed-up beats. you're supposed to play them at the same time. have fun. there was a remix cd, of course.

Techno Animal instead of Ice or God, maybe?

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

lost half of that NZ sentence somehow. "but... they've held up surprisingly well."

and that's Savvas Ysatis.

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago)

does this stuff include trancey build-ups and repetition and shit? i'm not really into planet-mu, dj scud style tech-noise.

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Pan Sonic (no vocs)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:09 (twenty years ago)

nah not really into all that ironic white noise amen stuff. pan sonic is close, but not really dark enough. plus no vocals.

has anyone heard the carl craig remix of "still walking"? a bit like that.

alphonz., Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Strange, the Carl Craig remix of "Still Walking" is nothing like the stuff I was thinking of in regard to this thread. If that's what you're after, all you really need is Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" (the track) because that's the pinnacle of the style.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago)

or just get into Chicago House music

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 23:08 (twenty years ago)

Nova Zembla is a good call.

I don't know if it's quite what you're after, but what about checking out releases on Chan 'N' Mike's (the UK label)? Also, perhaps, Regis, Surgeon.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 23:12 (twenty years ago)

2004's Electro-House Classics

it's tricky (disco stu), Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago)

i think i've heard that kraftwerk track. and carl craig is from detroit if that's what you mean. though another similar tune to what i'm after could be track 1 on grava 4 by drexciya? but with vocals. tell me what nova zembla i should download?

i already like dance music! i want weirdo stuff.

alphonz., Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:27 (twenty years ago)

there's some pretty weirdo stuff in that thread.

it's tricky (disco stu), Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:30 (twenty years ago)

How about Laibach, Human Resource or even Front 242?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:37 (twenty years ago)

Simple.

You create it yourself.

Sadly, that is about it, for that sound, and current.

3underscore (___), Thursday, 23 December 2004 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Green Velvet???

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Thursday, 23 December 2004 02:46 (twenty years ago)

cubanate, 'why are you here'. masive industrial with vocals, a shuffle beat, and plenty of bass.

:| (....), Thursday, 23 December 2004 03:17 (twenty years ago)

Ant-Zen Records
Daft Records
Frozen Empire Media
Hushush Disques
Minus Habens

These labels come to mind, you might find something you like. I was really into that kind of thing for a couple of years.

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 23 December 2004 04:00 (twenty years ago)

omg duh. Fred Giannelli! direct link to TG/PTV. and the tracks he cut for his Telepathic label are "something with the sensibilities of L.S.D. but without the cheesiness and more bass and horrible computer noises" and all "trancey build-ups and repetition and shit."

there are (or were) two volumes of Telepathic Wisdom available on CD, both equally excellent - tiles like "The Acid Didj" and "Painkiller" give away Giannelli's game - and also the great Kooky Scientist material he released on Plus8. very underrated producer. just download "Fox Hunt" for a taste. it's like 23Skidoo's urban gamelan gone trance!

if Pan Sonic isn't brutalist enough (!?), try Celluloid Mata.

working on Nova Zembla recommendations. haven't listened to that stuff in a while.

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Thursday, 23 December 2004 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Gil, no :wumpscut: love on your part? Not that I'm surprised, it just seems to fit the query.

Also, might want to check out some 90's EBM: Project Pitchfork, Dive, Numb, Kalte Farben, etc.
