Their album, The Shining Example Is Lying on the Floor, is certainly in my top 5 of the year, but I haven't heard anyone talk about it anywhere. I decided to check them out based on a recommendation in the Aquarius newsletter (aquariusrecords.org), but for a while I just thought it was an average sleepy folk album. But one day the songs just clicked. The arrangements are relatively sparse, but almost every plucked string or slide guitar effect is fucking perfect.
My August Name is probably my favorite folky song I heard this year.
So...has anyone else given these guys a listen? Highly recommended...

Sid's pretty involved in music around Portsmouth. He used to book a weekly series at the Red Door, called Hush Hush Sweet Harlot; it's since been taken over by Laurel Brauns, another singer-songwriter.
