How can anyone not like “???? ??? ????? ?? ?? ????? ???” by ??????? ????????? Or any song by Anna Vissi?

I found the aforementioned songs on this page; I suggest downloading some of the songs. They’re great.

And I wrote more about this on my blog.

It looks like this forum has trouble with greek letters.

The first slew of letters should be “Kati exw pathi me ta matia sou”, the second one is “Eirini Merkouri”

That question mark thing is beautiful.

It was supposed to be Greek letters, but I had to translate them to the Latin Alphabet. Encoding them would have been to much work.

Κατi εxw Mε etc

Someone on ILM finally speaks sense! I agree whole-heartedly. This is exactly the kind of Greek music I love. Thanks for the tip.

When I saw this thread title, I thought to myself, "I don't remember starting a thread with that title, but it sounds like me."

These sinewey eastern rhythms and melodies combined with utterly heavenly western style vocal harmony.

If I am Jonah, than Greek music is God. I don't know why I keep trying to run away.

Another great thing about Greek music, is that I can pretend to be Haris Alexiou, a female singer, and still come out ahead on my masculinity quotient.

Hmm, now I'm intrigued.

ABBA's "I Have a Dream" to thread then..

Actually, I don't like every mp3 I've heard from that page Dante linked to above. (There are a couple Haris Alexiou tracks but in a later style than what I prefer, though I think her voice is still powerful.)

And the rhythms aren't always that sinewy, though the melodies are, I guess. The feel is sinewy.

x-post: Geir you should try out some Haris Alexiou, if you haven't yet.

I may have exaggerated a little, but I'm still puzzled by my not having explored Greek music more. I think I am a little afraid of it competing too much with my other musical loves. Is that strange? It just seems too easy to like, but isn't that a ridiculous reason not to listen?

i had to dj at a greek wedding once. for the kids (play western dance pop). then i had to get off for the real greek dj. i could've given up right then (o, hang on - maybe i did actually, or maybe it was the saint movie party with the singing dog that did in my dj career...)

there was much more fun to be had with the greek dj. much more.

I also like it because I have an obsession with foreign languages. The only reason I got those songs in the first place is because I wanted to hear what Greek sounded like.

Some of the titles are almost impossible to pronounce. I try singing along with them but they sound like tongue twisters. What the hell is Pares8Iseis?

‘Kati exw pathei me ta matia sou’ is easy though.

Greek is a great language. It's all so staccato and pithikatithani sounding.

Don't know if I could handle dancing in 5/8 time, myself.
