What song would you want to/not want to direct a music video for?

I would very much like to direct a music video for either "Crimes" by the Blood Brothers or "Le Poinçonneur des Lilas" by Serge Gainsbourg. I love the concept of a ticket-puncher being driven insane by his job, and the refrain where he obsesses over the holes would lend itself to some wonderful imagery. "Crimes" demands a music video consisting of a single shot of an abandoned concrete dock. Somehow I doubt that anyone who would actually make a video for it would understand that.
I would not like to direct a music video for "There Is a Mountain" by Donovan. How the hell would you communicate "First there is a mountain / Then there is no mountain / Then there is"?

i want to make videos for Phoenix, Broadcast, The Clientele, Miss Kittin, Simian, that Max Sedgley track 'Happy' (tho there probably is one), Boards Of Canada...

latest website idea is to create a place to encourage people to send in videos they've made independently for tracks they personally like or have a good idea for.

My God, wasn't there a crappy BBC TV show based on that idea in the early 80s Steve? Anyone remember it? I think Steve Wright or someone hosted it and most of the vids were absurdly literal. I can only vaguely remember this thing. Maybe it was Noel Edmonds did it...

New Rose by the Damned.

Intro: all shot in a very small vocal booth...
"Is she really going out with him?" - Dave (I think) at mic on his own
Drum intro (in same small booth) - Rat pounds drums (on his own)
Guitar - Brian James (in same booth on his own)
RAt tat tat tat - Rat (obv) back in
"OH!" Dave lurches at mic in stand
"B B B BOOM!" Capt.Sens on Bass, in the booth (well, it's only fair)

and so on...

Nick B. The show was hosted by DLT!

Two vids were bearable, "Starman" and "Little Red Rooster". Rest were poor beyond belief.

I've always wanted to direct a ballet piece, set behind the bar of a pub, to go with The Cure's "A Few Hours After This", but having no talent for directing or choreography, no money, and the song being a b-side from the mid-80s, have conspired to prevent this from happening. Who can make my dream come true?

"There is a Mountain" is easy. Just make it look something like Siddhartha. Maybe have Donovan as the ferryman.

Charlie: A.C. Marias "Just Talk" video sounds very similar to that. (It was on Snub TV back in the day). So, get a copy of that and re-edit it to fit.

*Great* website idea Steve, do it do it! Although like Charlie, the ideas I have for videos are rather beyond my budget and capabilities.

(Yes sorry Steve, my hairy cornflake flashback moment wasn't meant to be disparaging. I was just overcome by childhood horrors)

Ah, you were talking about The Golden Oldie Picture Show, hosted by DLT. I used to love it, but I was a child at the time. I even used to listen to DLT on the radio </shameful admission>

I want to direct a video for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult's "The Days Of Swine And Roses" which is essentially a Hammer video with goths in it.

I'd like to take Hanson's "Where's the Love?" and make a video of it that inspired by The Battle of Algiers.

I wouldn't want to direct the video of any song that I think is utterly brilliant and fantastic and untouchable and should never be covered by anyone. I could potentially ruin the splendour of such a song by making the video not equal in quality to the song (or even more criminally, by making a video that wasn't memorable).

I have a concept for a Wu-Tang video. It could be any song where at least four of them rhyme:

It's a war zone scene. First up is Inspecta Deck, who speeds across the battlefield, in this army humvee, rhymin' while explosions are going off all around. Then he stops, this tank rolls up next to him, fires off a few shells, hatch pops open, and out comes the head and torso of Method Man, he does his verse, then the camera pans up fast to the sky and the cockpit of a fighter jet. Pilot throws off his helmet and mask and it's Ghostface, who does his verse. Then the camera zooms out to the whole plane, and the plane tilts so you see the missiles under the wing, and one of the missiles is ODB, who gets launched and then rhymes flying through the air, finishing right before he slams into the enemy silo and blows the whole place.
