Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Producer, right? Always held him kinda accountable for the beyond gorgeous/heavy/smooth/enveloping/STILL ROCKIN (ie this isn't fuckin Mbv or some "fag shit") sound Kyuss got on the last/only 3 recs I have of theirs, please get better man (and do a QOTSA rec)

A more touching tribute could scarcely be imagined

Yep, producer. Ánd singer/leader of the fabulous Masters of Reality, of course :-)
Glad to hear he seems to be getting better.

I thought it very sad to find out that he stopped producing/working on Mark Lanegan's Bubblegum. I still think that album lacks the 'punch' that the material on the Here comes that weird chill e.p. does have. And I think that's because of (the absence of) Goss. I understand that they decided to discontinue the collaboration (hence the ep) because of some difficulties. Stevie Chick briefly mentioned this in his interview in LLSS#1, but it's not dealt with in the actual interview. I've always wondered what those difficulties were supposed to have been... Maybe Stevie Chick can elaborate a bit more? (if he's still around these boards...)

(the interview I mentioned was with Lanegan, not Goss. fyi)

I need some MoR recs I think (recommendations?)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The first! Self-titled, may be a bit hard to get your hands on though as I believe it's out of print. All the others are (supposed to be) great as well. I've heard Sunrise on the Surferbus and Welcome to the Western Lodge and both are great but do not match the sheer power of the swampblueshardrock that is the debut...

mark didn't elaborate on those difficulties and didn't want to discuss them any further. and when i interviewed him again this summer, he threatened me for writing what he'd said then in the first place, that it was 'off the record' (it wasn't). so who knows what the truth is? mark is a very strange guy, and not a particularly nice one.

Thanks for the info Stevie. Although it doesn't reveal much, I guess it provides some insight 'into the matter'.

I hope Chris Goss gets better. I am a huge fan of the Masters of Reality going way back. I grew up in Syracuse, NY, and I got to see them at their annual Halloween show at the Landmark Theater downtown when I was tiny. They were real fucking heroes to us because they actually put out a record and garnered some attention. That first record still sounds so good. It was just ahead of its time. I also saw the Bogeymen several times. They were a M.O.R. spin-off band featuring former guitarist, Tim Harrington and former drummer, Vinnie Ludovico. Both are amazing fucking musicians. They originally put out a record on Delicious Vinyl. Check that out if you are into the M.O.R. family of bands.
