BLINK 182 are about as Punk as Phil Collins.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 30 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Phil Collins is NEW WAVE! Blink aren't new wave, dude.

Sterling Clover, Sunday, 30 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely Blink are ponk -- porn punk.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 30 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Phil Collins...punk rock demigod extraordinaire.
"Land of Confusion" is just "Anarchy in the UK" played on a synth.

Lord Custos, Sunday, 30 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AG gets the best critics asward by far - from Has AG gone retarded?, to the great folk criticism - todo aqui es basura - el folkolrico colombiano es lo mejor! - to the brillinat rock criticism of they need someone younger to be writing these lists - i love it... when did AG start having articles anyway?

geoff, Sunday, 30 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Esoterica is more indie than punk, no?

JM, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nine months pass...
blink is a fucking boy band disguised as a punk band. it is cute inoffensive pop. and you should be ashamed of yourself for ever believing it was punk. i dont even like fugazi and i'm offended. (misfits > fugazi).

d k (d k), Monday, 28 October 2002 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

A lot of the stuff on that list is bland power-pop, and there's some that's bland/boring hardcore (Recover?! for fuck's sake.)

But Fugazi are fantastic, as is that album. XBXRX... well, I know some people who are in love with this band. I think they're annoying as hell. But they're surely more punk than Alkaline Trio, The Donnas and any of the bands on Victory Records.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 00:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Please tell me The Goblins isnt Nardwaur's band where they all dress up like Goblins.
The Donnas are marginally better then Kitty.

WTF IS FUGAZZI?????

your shitting me right?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Id rather have Blink over Alkaline Trio and Grade any day. At least Blink arent pretentious.

David Allen, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"Geez, punk's got problems... "

Sure it has Charlie - it died in 1979...

Nothing like as many problems as all these bands who clearly don't understand what punk was all about and are desparerately seeking to revive it without having grasped that the whole concept of a revival is completely contradictory to everything punk ever stood for 'though.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

mark: delete punk, please.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Does it really matter what the fuck you are if you make good music?

David Allen, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yes.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Does it really matter what the fuck you are if you make good music?

No. It matters what the fuck you are if you make terrible music.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Note that I wasnt defending anybody on the list (except maybe Fugazi), I just dont think you shouldn't like a band just cause they aren't "punk" enough.
