Ah. Spontaneous 17 then, I suppose. I think Glass' pop interpretations are way underrated. Pras's single is in my head like always. "some got hopes and dreams, we got ways and means" as the disco line goes below, Jesse Jackson rhymespeak of grit and glam. The Fibbers return to their roots and kiss it all off, and Mystikal has less a beat than a texture, cinema of a new sort a south not dirty but smog-ridden. Cyndi dreams of an escape and maybe regrets the one she's made but Britney is still anticipating and Big Star would rather stay up all night just for the morning. What's chet baker doing in there? The Keith Sweat one is just really good.

the original philip glass symphonic version of heroes or the aphex remix of that where he fades bowie's vocals in and out? because the latter is certainly perfect in every way.

Where is that Aphex remix of Glass' version of "Heroes"? I gotta have that.

Mark, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

K-Reg, I dunno whether you mean 'Shine Eye' is perfect or hot or instantaneous, but I agree whatever!

Sterling, which version of "Summer" do you have in mind? I still can't decide which one I like more.

Ten Rapid.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a feeling... I think it's the beginning that does it for me. The way it fades in slowly on the crashing and thrashing, then out, before the "song proper" begins--it feels like the end of something, but it's actually the beginning, not just of the song but of the album as well (even though it's a singles comp., I think it's very well-sequenced and flowing), and it's really effective.

"Sticking Chickens", like a lot of stuff on the second half of Da Real World (eg. "Hey DJ", "We Did It") is sorely underrated. I luv it.

Tim, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shine-Eye's hot! It can't decide which side of the world it's from, cool rave with winding steamy bass. And it's all the better because I can't make the words out.

K-reg, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What are these threads for again? Um, dleone's list is better than Sterling's.
