this is the thread where we talk about how much better Uncle Tupelo was than Wilco

seriously, most days im sure that Tupelo was thousands of times more worthy than Wilco or Son Volt or solo projects will ever be.

anyone agree with me?

I'll go so far to say that Anodyne is the best thing I've heard either of them do. Trace and Summerteeth are both pretty good, though.

I really can't work out if I hate Wilco or if I quite like them. That song "Jesus etc" winds me up as much as it makes me smile. Same with the most of YHF. The whole album is just frustrating - plain as fuck songs made interesting with cool effects and sounds. Cringeworthy emo-style lyrics that if you ignore them don't really matter too much yet I can't get enough of the wailing guitar refrain on track 6.

I really like that Jay Farrar album that came out 3-4 years ago.

I loved Uncle Tupelo and have liked parts of both of Farrar and Tweedy's projects, but I haven't been able to get into Summerteeth at all.

I'd much rather listen to the first two Tupelo records when they did those really fast Minutemen style country songs. Tweedy was a really good bassist.

Every time I think of either of these bands I keep thinking how shitty it is that the band Ken Coomer was in before Uncle Tupelo never went anywhere.

Apparently someone else agrees with me out there, so I don't have to go into great detail about Clockhammer.

You mean that one that he keeps releasing over and over again with a different title?

I really do miss UT, though.

no way, this had virtually none of that crazy horse thing he had going for a while, it was a lot of mellotron, jon wurster, ballads... pretty much a departure from the son volt stuff. hold on, i've got it right over there....

it's called sebastapol (which was stupid of me to forget because it's a city about two hours north of here)

the solo farrar stuff is pretty great.

I own one Jayhawks album, so I think I've got this corner of the musical world covered.
