If it actually is better, maybe it should be your top 10? :)

if it is your 11-20 list, maybe there's a reason for that.

It might be more interesting to other people, I don't know if there's anything in my top ten which would surprise anyone (mostly because that's the shit I've been going on about all year). I think the whole list probably gets more interesting as it goes down.

11. Teedra Moses, Complex Simplicity
12. Dizzee Rascal, Showtime
13. Brandy, Afrodisiac
14. Emma Bunton, Free Me
15. Christina Milian, It's About Time
16. Shystie, Diamond In The Dirt
17. Scissor Sisters, Scissor Sisters
18. JC Chasez, Schizophrenic
19. Miss Kittin, I Com
20. Lydia Lunch, Smoke In The Shadows

I'm kind of disappointed that none of the grime albums made my top ten. I really expected them to midway through the year. Wiley is like 22.

like half of yr list would be mine, lex

Well yes, but the only reason I can think of is because I don't consider the albums in my 11-20 to be as good as those in my top 10. Theoretically speaking anyway, since I haven't compiled such a list.

Unless people are taking other factors besides their own personal opinion of the albums into account... but that's no fun now is it?

how would it be "better"? i don't get that, unless we changed our minds. more interesting is another question though. these are off the top of my head (which is fried after collating 700 pazz and jop ballots), and needless to say i am probably forgetting a bunch. also, these are in the order i remember them, now how much i like them, ok?:

gretchen wilson
wolf eyes
third unheard: connecticut hip-hop compilation
montgomery gentry
numbers band
witchcraft
lil wayne
ewigkeit
dna
crunk classics compilation

i meant "NOT how much i like them". (though actually they probably ARE more or less in the order of how i like them, come to think of it.)

11.The Blood Brothers-Crimes
12.V/A-Rio Baile Funk: Favela Booty Beats
13.Mountain Goats-We Shall All Be Healed

That's from a weeks ago. I've been listening to the /Rupture album a lot more lately and would probably place it higher if I made the list today.

C0L1N B--KETT, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 05:12 (twenty years ago)

Tim, I'm suprised you like the New Buffalo record. (although, to be fair I haven't heard many of the songs recorded and Sally's scurvy-chic could've just put me off when I saw her live).

C0L1N B--KETT, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

11. Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - Crunk Juice
12. Sixtoo - Chewing On Glass & Other Miracle Cures
13. various artists - Channel 3: a compilation of Output Recordings
(compilation)
14. Dizee Rascal - Showtime
15. Felix Da Housecat - Devin Dazzle & The Neon Fever
16. Eagles Of Death Metal - Peace Love Death Metal
17. RTX - Transmaniacon
18. Phoenix - Alphabetical
19. Doctor Mix & The Remix - Wall Of Noise (reissue)
20. various artists - How To Kill The DJ Part Two (mix & compilation)

My 11-20 is probably not quite as "trad" as the top 10. Not that any of these are, like, waaaay out there or anything!

I think I actually meant to put the Air album where the Phoenix album is, too. Duh, go me.

haitchâ„¢ (haitch), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

I guess the reason these didn't make my Top Ten (other having to cram everything into *one* Top Ten; taking away Reissues eternally fucks P&J, much more so than bandwagon bandwagging) is that I didn't feel compelled to put them in my Top Ten. The order might have changed if the ballot actually had this many slots, but it woud have gone something like this:
11. Drive-By Truckers--THE DIRTY SOUTH
12. Ghost--HYPNOTIC UNDERWORLD
13. Cyndi Boste--SCRAMBLED EGGS (THE ROSE ST. SESSIONS)
14. Big & Rich--HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR
15. Miles Davis--BIRDLAND 1951
16. GRIME
17. Arthur Russell--CALLING OUT OF CONTEXT
18. Metal Boys featuring China--TOKIO AIRPORT
19. Benny Lackner Trio--NOT THE SAME
20. Shukar--BEAR TAMER'S MUSIC
If only Gogol Bordello vs. Tamil Muskat's JUF and the Subliminal Sounds comp THAI BEAT A-GO-GO had a couple more hot tracks each, they would have been on this list, if not(probably!) the Top Ten. But couldn't just ify incl.something half hot/half not-so-hot. Not without room for a waring label.

don, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

I like the idea of this thread, I usually find the second ten albums from everyone's lists are more varied and interesting.

11. Bjork - Medulla
12. The Yellow Swans - Bring The Neon War Home
13. Kanye West - College Dropout
14. Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks
15. Jim Guthrie - Now, More Than Ever
16. Mastodon - Leviathan
17. DFA Compilation #2
18. Excepter - KA
19. Sunn0))) - White2
20. Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles

reed (smile), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

GRIME being the Rephlex comp; BEAR TAMERS MUSIC without the apostrophe, and "warning" label, though a warring label might also prove useful. If I had a third tier:
21. Arthur Russell--WORLD OF ECHO
22. Mastodon--LEVIATHAN
23. Ladies W.C.--s/t
24. Pere Ubu--ONE MAN DRIVES etc
25. 52nd Street Blues Project--BLUES & GRASS (Blood Ulmer, Charlie Burnham & Co., even more harmolodically down home than on ODYSSEY)
26. Nancy McCallion--s/t (solo debut of Mollys mainperson. Not as great as she can be and/or they could be, but good; in my Nashville Scene Top Ten)
27.I dunno: Gretchen Wilson? David Thomas and 2 Pale Boys? Haven't listened enough to that one. Lots of stuff! I gotta go

don, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Wiley - Treddin' On Thin Ice
Junior Boys - Last Exit
Coachwhips - Bangers Vs Fuckers
Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender
Hella - The Devil Isn't Red
Help She Can't Swim - Fashionista Super Dance Troupe
Snack Truck - Harpoon
Sunn0))) - White2
Descendents - Cool To Be You
RTX - Transmaniacon

excluding comps and reissues
