hello

i am new to this site/forums.

i have acidentally found it when looking for the wire 2004 rewind.

i have scanned different best of 2004 lists on: http://www.geocities.com/altmartinuk/2004lists.html but i seem i cant find any rare grooves/nu jazz/funk/breakbeats/global beats best of 2004.

any hint?

This would be a good time for one more explanation of what "rare grooves" are. I'm never sure I've gotten it.

I always thought Rare Groove could be taken literally, ie "Those rare records with the groove." Basically obscure dance/groove records...

Piccadilly Records has best-of-2004 for Nu-Jazz and Broken Beathere.

for me rare grooves is oldish stuff, 70s and older. dusty grooves. :) (why dustygrooves.com dont do their faves of a year?)

I kinda figured it meant obscurish late '60s/early '70s funk, usually of a Southern/West Coast bent (usually with "traditional" instruments; no synths, but electric pianos and clavinets are usually OK), and music that sounds like it (think the Dap-Tone label and Sharon Jones).

The Mongo Santamaria and Louie Ramirez on this page might be useful in the rare groove department. (Haven't heard them though.) Maybe too Latin.

i have just checked GP´s WWW 2004, great recommendations out there. thanks, i forgot about GP.

anyway, Piccadilly Records has different sorts of lists of 2004, all of theme are worth to check out.
