BLURBS FOR '04 LISTS

Does anyone who neglected to indicate that they were willing to write blurbs on their '04 ballots want to volunteer now? With the # of volunteers I have now, I don't have enough to reasonably cover every single / album, so I either need more volunteers or I guess I'll just junk the blurb idea altogether.

So if you want to volunteer to write for anything on your list (or just specific albums on the list, if you want) please let me know in this thread.

Here's who's volunteered so far (listed by the name on your e-mail account)

Alba
Bill N
Dan H
Hayden N
HotelOpera
John C
Keith S
Owen H
Ray C
Reed R
Steve M
Tonci K
Tuomas
Wshieldods

Thanks to all the peoplpe who've volunteered already.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

You sure all these people want their full names posted here?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit, I meant to volunteer. So yeah, I'll write a blurb for anything on either of my lists.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

You sure all these people want their full names posted here?

What does it matter if I'm not posting what their board ID is?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

i ended up not voting because i just couldnt decide

but i'd happily do a:

girls aloud
stina nordenstam
sondre lerche

blurb, if needed.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I'd try Destroyer or Stars if they happen to appear.

derrick (derrick), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

What does it matter if I'm not posting what their board ID is?

Err - because with some of them, it's pretty obvious?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I assume you're both referring to albums?

Err - because with some of them, it's pretty obvious?

If it's already obvious, then why does it matter that I'm posting their names?

I don't get it--are people upset that I'm posting that these people board on ILM, or that they're writing blurbs for the '04 lists?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Some people don't use their full names on ILM for a reason - they don't want stalkers to track them down, for example. It's best to be on the safe side unless they've said otherwise.

I've changed the surnames to initials - hopefully there's no confusion.

Don't worry about it.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

(I know that on the 2000-4 poll, stevem posted up a blurb of barima's with his surname, for example, and he asked for it to be removed)

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I'll write about anything on my list, just let me know which ones you need (don't want to duplicate efforts).

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

I post under my first name as it's fairly ungoogleable on it's own. I wouldn't want someone coming here if they googled my full name, as once they are here it would be fairly easy to find all the other twuntery I put around the place. That's all.

(xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

fair enough.

I already have you down, Keith, thanks.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Alba.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I'd happily write blurbs for anything I voted for.

Derek Krissoff (Derek), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I can write blurbs. As I mentioned when I sent you my ballot, I have already written blurbs for all the albums I sent in. And I'll be happy to volunteer for anything else that I'm familiar with.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I guess I could write about just about anything I listed - it might not be very good, but I could write something.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Ditto.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'll already have written blurbs for anything in my top 10 and could probably write something for any of my 11-20, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Maybe it would be more fun if Dr Bill got us to write blurbs for the things we haven't voted for (or heard?).

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

I will do something for anything, a bit.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

Maybe it would be more fun if Dr Bill got us to write blurbs for the things we haven't voted for (or heard?).

Haha. I like it, but perhaps a bit too experimental for this late in the game.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

Still could use a couple more writers.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

I'll write blurbs for anything on my list. But none of my blurbs for the 90s list got picked so I probably suck at writing blurbs.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

eh, neither were mine. Whatever.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

Dr Bill, I have mailed you; lemme know what you want me to write up.

haitchâ„¢ (haitch), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I gotcha.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

All right, I'm about to assign blurbs, so writers check your e-mails in an hour or so.

There are still a bunch of holes, though. So if in the next week or so, anyone has a change of heart and feels like writing a blurb or two, please let me know.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and blurbs will be due in one week (next Wednesday).

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

It's just like school!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

Any word limits?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

word count limits, I mean

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

more people (like one or two maybe) might volunteer if there is an incentive, say, a CDR of the singles poll for all blurb writers or something.

seems like most of the freelancers here either don't think it's worth their time or are all polled out, but I definitely think some more well-known names might be necessary to make this blurb thing work.

bill neil (inabillity), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

i'll volunteer. but can i get a mug or a tote?

john'n'chicago, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

The incentive is we voted in the poll, we love lists, and he's asking us to write about our favourite music. Anyone who posts regularly to ILM can wax poetic on their favourite albums for thirty minutes in their sleep.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Any word limits?

Not really. Just be reasonable--you know what blurbs look like, don't write essays or anything. I'll edit if necessary.

I'm strapped for resources at the moment, so incentives are lacking.

i'll volunteer. but can i get a mug or a tote?

Did you submit a list?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Amen.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

I was assigned the Hold Steady record (among others) and am having second thoughts about my willingness to write it up. If anyone out there is keen to blurb it instead please drop me a line. (And if not, of course, I'll throw something together, 'cause of honor and such.)

Derek Krissoff (Derek), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Did you submit a list?

i did indeed. i don't think i included my name, but it's from this email address...

john'n'chicago, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

I demand air miles.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Count me in, GDB, though my blurbs will be shit cuz I'm just a dude.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 6 January 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

I'll do it, GDB, if any of my choices make it in!

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 8 January 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

Remember, you guys have until Wednesday for this.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I haven't forgotten - don't worry.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

(even if one of them is causing me a massive headache)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm having the same problem. But hopefully I will be finished tonight.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh thanks for the reminder, dude. Blurbs on their way to you in a jiffy.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

You efficient bastard.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 10 January 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

urgh, i may not have time/inspiration for this by Wednesday - but feel free to mail me if you need a comment on anything (particularly if i voted for it) TGDB

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 10 January 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I've written some for all of them, but I am struggling a bit, here and there. Would Thursday do? I don't think I'm in on Wednesday. (I'll try to get them finished before then, of course.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 10 January 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

Early Thursday, maybe. I want to post the lists Thursday and Friday.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 10 January 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

you're posting the entire lists in two days? oh well, i'll see what i can do. probably best this way actually - bit tired of the drawn out process of previous poll results, considering the winners were pretty disappointing/too predictable - and it means the 70s poll can crack on too

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

yeah, enthusiasm is low, this definitely seems like a "let's get this out of the way" sort of poll.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

I sort of like the quotes pulled ILM since they often relate the pop-excitement factor more than the hindsight blurbs.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

jens lekman won the twee.net poll. it could have used some blurbs.

keith m (keithmcl), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

true Spencer - they also inspire people to re-read and even revive worthy threads - it was soooo time-consuming tho!

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm quite good at searching and have some time on my hands tomorrow night if Dr Bill wants help in supplementing the blurbs with old ILM posts.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I would be in favor of that.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

I was already planning on doing both.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

So I'm not sure about what's asked for here. Do we write something about everything we voted for, or just the one's that made the final list?

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

I sent the people that volunteered for blurbs an e-mail with one or two albums and one or two singles (which they voted for) for them to write about.

It's all done with now, anyway.
