today i realised that hidden away in the archive i have had the original alexis strum version of the excellent 'still standing' track that kylie covered.

so in the natural way these things work i have resurrected the track on my blog for all to hear ..

http://ireallylovemusic.blogspot.com

there aint that much difference is there ?

i have to say now that i have fallen under the spell of all this electro rock/pop stuff the ep has some excellent other songs.

actually - Nothing Good About this Goodbye is a Xenomania track - has this surfaced anywhere else ?

Lots of Kylie's tracks are pilfered from other sources. I really want to hear the original version of "Where Is The Feeling?" which was done by someone else.

yeah .. i know .. i just had no idea i had the orig till this morning when digging around the archive - and i suspect that her album was never released so guess that not that many folks will have the orig.

has the Alexis Strum/Xenomania track been covered elsewhere cos its f*ckin ace ..

Alexis has quite a bit of unreleased material - most of which I've only heard spoken of, I'd imagine it's being offered around to the highest bidder if it's decided that Ms Strum herself is unmarketable.

the promo ep was wea stamped from 2003 and at the time her website was the usual flashy gubbins. but that has naturally fallen into oblivion ..

theres 5 tracks in all - which are all fine except the corny 'rock this disco'

i suspect you're right .. the songs will resurface with shiny new faces one them at some point.

five months pass...
Revive! Because the 5-track "Cocoon" sampler is quite good, though bizarrely nowhere near as immediate as her demo stuff.

But a few months have revealed "Bad Haircut" as something of a treasure, but there aren't any up-tempo songs, not even anything as punchy as "Nothing Good About This Goodbye". "Why Me Why Now" has a lovely dramatic edge to it, and "Heart Over Mind" is another excellent half-ballad thing.

two months pass...
Will "Bad Haircut," now finally released, come anywhere close to being a hit? Will Alexis once again be down the dumper even before she starts?

She'll probably flop. But "It Could Be You" is a Number One single in waiting, an "Eternal Flame" for the 00s.

Has there been any tv/radio airplay whatsoever? Has the rest of the album leaked yet? I don't fancy her chances, alas.

Album's not leaked as far as can be seen, but the label must have some high hopes as as as there are fakes on teh emule.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 07:48 (nineteen years ago)

No wait, it has leaked now.

x-post

It's on neither the Radio 1 nor the Radio 2 playlists, sigh.

"Don't wanna end up lonely with my cat. That's why I let you treat me just like crap."

This appears to be the most genius line ever, it's from "Alright", which seems to be the most uptempo song!

Oh, shall we say, if accurate, the midweeks are not encouraging in the slightest. (Sugababes look to be about to get their fourth UK #1, though, again, if accurate).

Yay for the Babes. I relistened to Alexis' old EP at the weekend and it's still pretty good. Would love for her to reach the top. The StrumBlog (sauce) at Popjustice is good readin'.

Oh, excellent.

Edward posting the tracks, that is; the tracks themselves are a little...adult contemporary. (I blame James Blunt, etc.) But then again I thought the same of "Bad Haircut" (which, for those who have never heard it, should still be up at the blog, trembleclef.blogspot.com) at first, and then it became good.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

"Long Way Home" ranks up there with "Nothing Good About This Goodbye", I have listened to it on repeat MUCHLY today. Also, excellent, that you have a blog now, BL!

"LWH" is quite good. I do sometimes feel a little disappointed, however, when when a girl singer should be a dance/pop diva but go the more tasteful serious songwriter/singer route instead. Kate Rogers is the other example that comes to mind.
