Rekkids ye bought and either took back and swapped for something else or worse got stuck or that you thought you liked at the time but now realise you were wrong:

Andy Hart (AndyHart), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

I didn't buy'em, but someone gave me Yankee Hotel Rimjob by Wilco and Antics by Interpol,....and I wish they didn't.

Oh, and To the Five Burroughs was a big let down.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Is it me, or was Superpitcher's Here Comes Love a massive letdown? I haven't been able to listen to that record more than 3 times. Haven't had much luck spotting it on anyone's Top 10 either.

Jena

JenaP (JenaP), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

It's no.2 in my top 10.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

"A Grand Don't Come For Free" by the Streets is an embarrasing load of bollocks and one of the most terrible competition prizes I've ever won.

oorwulliewallpaper, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Tom Waits, Real Gone

even more disappointing as I only really spend money on albums I'm 100% sure I'll like these days, and I was 100% sure I'd love this. Lydia Lunch and the Dresden Dolls did better Tom Waits albums than he did this year.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

The Moving Units album. Ouch.

Bimble..., Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

There's one that stands out higher than any other.

Mario Winans, Hurts No More

I loved the single. Every review said the album was bad, people were telling me not to bother. I've had a lot of good experiences with albums that get horrible reviews despite a great single, so I got it anyway.

Woo. Everybody was right. Everybody but me. Painfully bland.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

I purchased that new Faint CD used on promo a week before it came out for 3 bucks. Within hours I was calling Faint fans I knew and telling them to run the other way when they saw it. I think I sold it back the next day for 4 bucks at another store, so I can't say I regret that purchase. Cha-ching!

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I bought The Rapture's album around this time last year based on Pitchfork's hoo ha. Now THAT record is a cosmic pile of poo.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Haha I downloaded that Faint album and it lasted about half an hour on my computer before getting sent to the depths of the Recycle Bin.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Oh, there were quite a few. The new Faint OTM; also the Ghost record (the indie-rock band, not "Hypnotic Underworld"), which was a pale imitation of its likable Albini-produced predecessor. Travis Morrison's "Travistan." Joanna Newsom. Radio 4.

And Shyne. I wanted to like it.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

On reflection, I could have lived without PJ Harvey's Uh Huh Her. The giveaway should have been that all the people enthusing about this album tended to say that they didn't like the last one. It's weird though, when I first heard it I didn't mind it at all... It's just that I haven't had the desire to listen to it again, really.

Good title though.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

dungen!

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

The new Hem record. Such a letdown.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if it's a 2003 or 2004 release, but I bought the Rollins Band's Weighting because of the four tracks with Charles Gayle. I was hoping they'd be Mahavishnu/King Crimson-ish instrumentals with Gayle ripping it up in front. They're not. They're Rollins reciting his fucking poetry while Gayle chews on his reed in the background, and only periodically comes up front. So if you're a Gayle fan, skippable.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

I accidentally bought the newest Dwarves album. Why did I do that?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

were you on a spree perhaps?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Sprees can only lead to tragedy.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Kevin Lyttle
new Clinic

C0L1N B--KETT, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I hauled around Air's 'Talkie Walkie' and Secret Machines 'Now Here is Nowhere' like the proverbial albatross before I got the balls to sell them back. blech.

and, yea, that dungen album was hard to stomach. i think i'll cash it in when i pick up the new circulatory system.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

New Circulatory System?

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

good call on Air's Talkie Walkie, you'd be much better off just getting the 'lost in translation' soundtrack

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

the dungen album is awesome, y'all crazy

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

As lamented on other threads:

Interpol, "Antics" - One amazing song (can you guess what it is?), plus a collection of song sketches and demos for what is presumably a real album.

Junior Boys, "Last Exit" - Some guy breathes over some New Order b-sides. Why is this act a duo?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Jill Scott: maybe should give it another try. the one and only time i listened to it... i thought i was transported to some jazz cafe and was subjected to a never ending gig. :-(

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

i mean, i dont like super furry animals, and dungen reminded me a lot of them.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Lucien-n-Luciano - Blind Behaviour. Tried & tried it...sold it. Unbelievable really since all his 12"s and collaborations are amazing.

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh and The Walkmen's The Rat or whatever it's called disappointed me, too. Sold that back real quick.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

i have never returned a record faster than that Dykehouse CD (purchased used but nonetheless).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

i bought that dykehouse cd used too, my friend at the store told me not to...WHAT A TURD.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

k.d. lang -- 49th Parallel
The Blue Nile -- High
Kelis -- Tasty (one fab single does not an album make...)

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Thursday, 6 January 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Yea, the new Circulatory System album is called "Blasting Through." I think it was supposed to come out last summer, but it's been delayed until spring '05. that's all i know.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Thursday, 6 January 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Yea, the new Circulatory System album is called "Blasting Through." I think it was supposed to come out last summer, but it's been delayed until spring '05. that's all i know. try googling it or something.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Thursday, 6 January 2005 00:59 (twenty years ago)

bark psychosis, i should have just let them be.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 6 January 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Kelis -- Tasty (one fab single does not an album make...)

I bought the 12" single and never looked back.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 6 January 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

I bought the cd used (shoulda been my first hint), burned "Milkshake," and then sold the thing back. And I still feel ripped off.

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Thursday, 6 January 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

I just bought sufjan steven'ses seven swans and the unicorns
record - who'll cut our hair?, and I am selling them both.

LMNOP, Thursday, 6 January 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

The 'proper' DJ/rupture album. My interest died a premature death after the wet blanket spoken-word bit in the first track. Here's a tip: do not befriend poets who recite like they hate language and people.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:47 (twenty years ago)

rachel goswell.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

OTM on dj rupture. 2004 was the year of the unofficial album >>> official album.

cf everything superpitcher did this year that WASN'T on the album etc.

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 6 January 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

hmmm.... I really don't want to agree on Rachel Goswell, and it's not really that dud, but it sure doesn't live up to the hype I'd placed on it.

derrick (derrick), Thursday, 6 January 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Radio 4
Doom's MM Food
Grind Date (so fucking boring)
Fiery Furnaces

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

This don't count, but I'm happy I previewed the Go Team's album first - it's an extended EP at best.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Thursday, 6 January 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Sunburned Hand of the Man's RARE WOOD. Message to the singer: shut up!!! After all the hype, what a disappointment.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Thursday, 6 January 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

None (thank you soulseek)

Rizz (Rizz), Thursday, 6 January 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

i agree with the Dykehouse call, very bad new indeed.

Daniel Spencer, Monday, 10 January 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

MOuse on Mars - Radical Connector. Pop? Where did the spark go? and the unique sound? Dissapointing and could really have been made by any other number of IDM imitators.

MU - Afro Finger and Gel. AFFWO FINGAHHHHHH!! *shrug*. Embarrasing, yet also really boring.

The Trip - Tom Middleton. Novelty-lounge cover versions in excelcis! Terrible mixing. Iffy all round.

Melodic (label sampler) - Tracks for Horses. £5 and not even one real standout track.

Jeff Mills - Exhibitionist. What happened?

Virginia Astley - From Gardens Where We Feel Secure. Zzzz, but not in a good way.

lurkerer, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

M83, after all the ilx hype, what a shitty rekkid.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Amen to that Walkmen record. I love "The Rat", can't really see much special about the rest of it tho.

maciej, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

Adam Beyer - "Ignition key" Boring boring boring techno. Dunno why it sounded good when I bought it.

MANDY - "Put Put Put" It being on Get Physical doesn't make it good.

Two copies of Tinchy Stryder's "Move" One woulda been plenty. Fucking internet sites and their easy-to-fuck-up forms.

Mobb Deep ft Lil Jon - "Real gangstas" I was like: "Mobb Deep AND Lil Jon - how can it NOT be good?"

Lil Flip - "Sunshine" - just can't explain it. think my ears temporarily stopped working. this really is utter garbage.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

MU - Afro Finger and Gel. AFFWO FINGAHHHHHH!! *shrug*. Embarrasing, yet also really boring.

*shocked* nuhuh, you just dont 'get' it ;)

Rizz (Rizz), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
I thought the Dykehouse record was great. Are you guys kidding?

John 2, Monday, 2 May 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Contrary to what I posted a few months ago, the Interpol album has seriously grown on me.

I still can't get into the Junior Boys, though.
