this is more just a role call of current or ex- college radio programmers. where did/do you work and what's your show like?

had two shows, myself... both at CJAM 91.5 FM in Windsor, Ontario. first was Morning Sickness and then came Book of Changes... both were pretty predictable mixes of indie rock, techno, jazz, and whatnot. you?

kcou 88.1fm in Columbia MO. I created "8 Miles High," an all psychedelic radio experience. I was definitely influenced by that syndicated radio program FLASHBACK, a lot more than I realized, too.

I now volunteer at a community radio station. It's a lot more organized but a little bit less fun than college radio. It's only less fun because more of an obligation to adhere to FCC guidelines, whereas at the college station, it's only a matter of time before someone shuts the place down, so say what you like!

10 yrs ago at Wesleyan University, music director and DJ. Golly, I'd love to be on the radio again. There are a lot of colleges here in Boston, but with a day job and etc., competing with current students and getting a slot that works for me seems impossible.

CKUT 90.3 fm in Montreal, 1-3am Monday nights. Playlists usually start loud and fast, and devolve into 20+ minute drone/noise freakouts and whatever for the 2nd hour. this email address for playlists and archive links.

Lots of good programming at this station, I'm proud to be part of it. Check the Simon Finn interview + in-studio performance they just did on "If you've got ears"! (Wed Jan 5, 2005, 12-2pm) It's in the archive at www.ckut.ca right now.

WPRB 103.3 FM in Princeton, NJ! I had a bunch of different shows.... My first show was the above mentioned standard indie rock, jazz, techno and whatnot. Then for the longest time I did a show that was basically all music from 1975 to 1985, my favorite years. The best was that my show corresponded somehow with some folks who would *always* be throwing a party right then, and who would call in, being like, "we're having a paaaarty!"

Sometimes I'd do this late-night thing too with my friend Ileana that was all spoken word, poetry, world music, and weird records we found in the 'misc' section of the Princeton Record Exchange. That was awesome.

WUNH 91.3 FM in Durham, NH (www.wunh.org). Music Director for 1992-93, DJ from 1989-95. Over the course of that time I did the all import show, the countdown show, the metal show, an ambient show, a few "saturday night specials" (3 hours devoted to one band/label), and a whole lot of freeform general programming.

I was music director and then station manager of WCWM in Williamsburg, Virginia from 2000 to 2002, then I DJed for a while at WESU at Wesleyan in 2003. I didn't actually like being on the radio, I just liked hearing tons of new music, so the Wesleyan experience where I wasn't in charge and the music directors weren't trying very hard was pretty frustrating. (Judging from the stacks, though, it must have been awesome when BlastsofStatic was there.)

I loved WCWM, though - it was an amazingly hip station given its market and the politically/socially conservative college with which it is associated.

I am an Ex-CJAM guy as well. I used to do a pretty varied electronic music show on Saturday nights which covered everything from Throbbing Gristle, Detroit techno, to ambient and experimental music.

what was the show called? i'm sure i listened quite a few times, if it was within the last 10 years (which i imagine it was.)

Whoa. I worked at the same station as Trip Maker.

It was a long time ago. I hired the guy who put the cinderblock up on the door. Whoopsie.

I did a show called Banjomania at CHRW 94.7 FM (now 94.9) for roughly six years, capped by a stint as the station's music director. The show was your standard open format, though did employ some gimmicks (all-vinyl request shows, our "whiplash" shows where every song would be the "complete opposite" of the one preceding, stuff like that).

Bruce S. Urquhart (BanjoMania), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

At the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
