Griffin's iTalk and live recording, mic'd or otherwise

Has anyone used the Griffin iTalk adapter to record live shows or their own music?

The device has a mini stereo 1/8" jack that, the manual says, can be connected to an outboard microphone. I've only used mine for recording interviews both using the built-in mic and a simple phone suction cup device.

I wouldn't dare-- it's 8kHz, 8-bit, mono. Far worse than a microcassette on 'low speed.' If you want to use your iPod to record music, try installing ipodlinux on it (there's some nice installers nowadays but you have to have a 1-3G, no minis or photos or etc.) The IPL kernel gets around the crap sound software limitation.
