I was thinking about this when watching the SNL repeat this evening. The thing that made U2 work for many years was the distinct personalities of band members that never stepped on each other's toes.

Since Achtung Baby especially, Bono has done everything possible to make himself larger than life.

Yet he hasn't released a solo album to date. Loyalty to U2? Fear of the unknown?

He's a big pussy, but I like him anyway.

that said, there is little good on the new U2 album. Vertigo is good, in a horribly predictable apple commercial kinda way, and Sometimes you cant make it on your own actually affected me in some way the first couple of times i heard it. other than that it sucks.
