From "Notes On Camp":
"The man who insists on high and serious pleasures is depriving himself of pleasure; he continually restricts what he can enjoy; in the constant exercise of his good taste he will eventually price himself out of the market, so to speak."

Rocksim sounds like a great game. What console is it on?

Vic Commodore 64

I'm waiting for the further clause to be added in anti-rockism which essentially states or implies high and low pleasures in combination are a means to an end and not the end in and of itself.

Well put, my articulate friend. And I enjoyed another recent post of yours on another thread expressing some similar sentiment. But I fear you might wait a long time for the addendum-that's a slow train coming.

Somehow I doubt Sontag would have regarded rock music as offering much in the way of "high and serious" pleasure.

Perhaps. But let's see what a new thread can prompt.

You may be right. After all, it's a New Year. And, since the whole debate has been outed to the well-groomed multitude of upperbrow cappuccino-drinkin' Lincoln Center-attendin' New York TImes readers, a paradigm shapeshift may not be far behind.

Ken L (Ken L), Sunday, 9 January 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Those paradigms, they keep on a-shiftin'. They're a shifty bunch.

Rockism is sort of etc. And I'd like to throw a vague hand shape to accentuate the above point.

Incidentally, the title of the thread refers to 'rocksim' rather than 'rockism'. So we need to bring in Baudrillard here, rather than Kuhn.
